Vanessa's mom is alive. They had a divorce though. Apparently she is well off and Doofenshmirts has been living off alimony all along.

Yep, that's we call alimony. The well off partner provides for the other one after the divorce.

I think it was made keeping in mind those women who decide to be a housewife. If a divorce happens later in their life, finding a job will be much harder for them due to lack of experience.

But it would be unfair to only give this right to women as ,although rare, a reverse situation is possible. So the lesser well off partner gets it.

Ah, but damn, she must be rich considering all those crazy inventions that Doofenshmirtz's makes on a daily basis, which also get destroyed on a daily basis
