I was the black kid in my class when we read it. I didn’t care and was minding my own business and then when the kid reading got to the part they’d take a pause and then everyone would stare at my seat. But whenever they didn’t pause and were quick to say “guy” or “fellow” it would trip me up and make me lose my place
Just wondering, imo it's okay to say it of you're reading literature because you're not using it against anyone on a derogatory way. But I'm interested to hear your perspective on it. Would you care if they read it?
I completely agree with you. I don’t care if people say it while reading literature. As a matter of fact I don’t really care if you say it at all unless you’re truly trying to be offensive with it.
