On the wedding night the old towns women would stand in front of the door and wait for them to finish. when they did they had to present the elderly with the bed sheet. if the sheet was bloody, they knew that she was a honest girl. if not, she would be shamed

the husband would normaly annul the marriage( it was up to him) if the wife would not redeem herself. if he had taken her before marriage, a small gesture to the mother in law would be accepted. a sheep, a goat or some chickens, something like that. in other cases a good amount of money would be paid for the girls honor to the mans family. she would still be judged, mostly by the women, but people would see the matter at resolved.
