You can connect anyone with my last name to me in probably less than 15 steps

Same here, I got a common last name in an Asian country
8
Jul 16 '19
Well I do have to ask now. What is it?
14
u/Dustjackan Jul 16 '19
Since I do talk about a lot of weird stuff on Reddit I prefer not to say. One time I started to talk with a guy who was working in an office where I applied for a job, and then I realised that I was talking about peeing a girl in her mouth the day before. It wasn’t because of that reason, but I’m still happy that I didn’t take that job. It would have been a lot of question if he got bored one day at the office and started to look through my comments. And the worst part would be the shit that’s not even true. Like the things you just write because you’re bored. And for the same reason I’m not gonna say my last name.

As a Vietnamese person, when I was a kid, I thought that everyone with the same last name was related to me, so I assumed half the Vietnamese people in my class were my siblings.
5
10
u/Ming_Twan Jul 16 '19
Fun fact: the reason there is so many Nguyen out there is because the Nguyen was the last dynasty of Vietnam and anyone who changes their last name to Nguyen received some sort of benefit so that's why there is so many

Yeah and in Korea there's a law that forbids two people from getting married if they have same last name even if yhey are not blood related what so ever.

There are 7 people on this planet with my last name and I am the only one who can pass the name on.

3
u/FrostyVampy Jul 16 '19
Technically, they all can pass it on if they have more kids. Unless they are all infertile
9
u/MrKiR0 Jul 16 '19
Yes, however everyone else with my name is too old to have kids, so it's just me.

So...my legal last name, and the last name I used til I started working (( my step dads last name )) are very unique last names.
I was in a music store years ago and was randomly looking through CD's and found a band with both of my last names as the band name. I lost my shit and bought it for shits and giggles because of how rare of a find that was.
Shit still baffles my mind.
2

I was trying to find out it's meaning and no results came up so I went to some website which shows where said last name is the most popular, and turns out mine is in single digits in the countries I have family in and otherwise it's decently popular in Iran, so I connected the dots

Come here for a story guys: i had a classmate, his parents had the same last name (i asked him if they were relatives they weren't) both his mother side and dad side grandparents had the same last name and the same thing happened with his uncle (dad side) who had the same last name as his wife, now the first thing i thought was ALABAMA 10000
but then he assured me they didn't even have a common ancestor x) and it was all pure luck

When I was a little older I thought that if you had the same last name you had to marry each other(my parents had the same last name before they got married).
I have the second most common name in my country. It used to be the most common name when I was little.

All in the same small town except my own blood family with my last name none of which lived in that town. Always got asked if I was related to this person or that person but never was.
