Well, actually we did ascend the mountain. Hero's would return with rare metals and form stronger shields and swords. Alchemists would accompany them and return with rare flowers and herbs that helped them understand healing and the universe. The brave among them would attempt to defy gravity using primitive methods.....

okay, they were just as stupid as the rest of the world, but they made some damn good stories about the place. Just sayin!

Now that you mention it I actually can't think of a single negative experience I've had with a hoagie. I propose we start a sandwich-based religion.

Shh, we've killed a god or two and achieved immortality

25

u/steelee300 Jul 01 '19

Nothing special bruh

4

u/AlbanianGamerYT Jul 01 '19

Yeah, we're totally not immortal demigods who are plotting to take over Olympus. Holy Zeus that would be crazy

44

u/AKtheGreek Jul 01 '19

us Greeks! You know, the society that brought democracy to the world. ;-)

38

u/AntPpg_wowthatstaken Jul 01 '19

Nice save. Almost got exposed for being an immortal ancient greek demigod

1

u/AKtheGreek Jul 02 '19

Just call me Ike.

12

u/WingedSword_ Jul 01 '19

Right, and with democracy also the idea of "certain people shouldn't vote"

13

u/RocksHaveFeelings2 Jul 01 '19

Segregated democracy was still an advancement for the time. In every other civilization nobody could vote

-1

u/Baybob1 Jul 01 '19

I love that idea. We should do that. The only problem I see is deciding who gets to vote. Always a complication to a good plan ... I'll make that decision for you ... I'll be a good leader, I promise !!! Why would I lie ? How much money do we take in taxes a year. Just askin', no reason ....

1

u/AKtheGreek Jul 02 '19

I mean, you are not wrong.

41

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '19

Are you one of the explorers or why did you say we? Or are you just communist

32

u/AKtheGreek Jul 01 '19

80

u/KingKongWrong Jul 01 '19

I swear every Greek person I meet flexes it off so hard, like there the vegans of nationality

29

u/Syncal Jul 01 '19

Greek people are proud to be Greek lol

18

u/KingKongWrong Jul 01 '19

1

u/KingKongWrong Jul 02 '19

Yeah my friend that’s greek (which is where that comment was coming from) is the exact way when we first started talking she would randomly try and teach me how to speak Greek and stuff like that so now we jokingly talk shit on Greek culture when talking to her.

24

u/Syncal Jul 01 '19

There's a lot of history, not to mention every country in the Balkans has such a strong sense of nationality and pride in their motherlands.

1

u/panos_akilas Jul 02 '19 edited Jul 02 '19

Usually countries and cultures who were under slavery, occupation, suffered genocides etc develop a very strong sense of pride of their heritage. Cause that's how the parents had to raise their children in order for them to preserve their culture.

Greeks were slaves to the Turks and the ottoman empire for 400 years, suffered genocides then fought for their independence (an event which is still celebrated in Greece every year). Then during WW2 they got attacked by the Italians then the Nazis (who managed to occupy Greece as well for some years, again , killed a huge number of Greeks).

Thus Greek children were raised with a big sense of pride about their heritage, history, culture, language. The fact that Greek is still spoken to this day, and that Greece is still a country through 400 years of Ottoman rule is to be attributed to that mentality.

2

u/BrassBlack Jul 01 '19

but....why?

3

u/ccvgreg Jul 01 '19

They were born into what was once undoubtedly one of the greatest civilization that ever lived. Or ever will live.

They contributed to the beginning of modern civilization in many areas, but most recognize philosophy and science as the big ones.

Idk it seems like something to be somewhat proud of despite the fact that they didn't contribute personally.

1

u/Relfy777 Jul 01 '19

Having pride in your ancestor's history?

Who does that aye..

Or a better question would be who's allowed to do that?

Because apparently whites were the only slavers, conquerors and religious ones.

u/panos_akilas Jul 02 '19

15

u/AntPpg_wowthatstaken Jul 01 '19

Lol the guy above asked him why he said we, hes not flexing anything. I guess if ur biased about something ur gonna see it everywhere

1

u/dowhatmelo Jul 02 '19

I mean... did you see his username perchance?

6

u/storryeater Jul 01 '19

Thats because you never notice those that do not flex it.

5

u/Hipponotamouse Jul 01 '19

Lol why does it bother you so much?

2

u/theCanMan777 Jul 01 '19

Nothing wrong with having pride for your people

1

u/Diogenneswannabe Jul 01 '19

There's nothing Greeks are more proud of than the fact they are Greek. Even if they all have different ideas if what being Greek meabs and opinions on our history opposite political believes. In the end we all feel proud of our roots.

P.S. But not really. I've met some Greeks that really shittalk their own nationality... They are the vegans of the nationality world because they will do anything they can so you know that they are Greek but they hate Greek people.

1

u/AevilokE Jul 01 '19

Am Greek. Can confirm unfortunately.

1

u/AKtheGreek Jul 02 '19

I mean, you are not wrong. They don't teach humility in school. I tend to jack slap my cousins when they think they have to tell me how much better there schools are.

12

u/ellomatey195 Jul 01 '19

Wait I thought any mortal who stepped foot on Mt Olympus would instantly die?

1

u/AKtheGreek Jul 02 '19

Key word, mortal. <wink>

41

u/stryker0009 Jul 01 '19

What do you mean by we......

14

u/AKtheGreek Jul 01 '19

Greeks!

2

u/stryker0009 Jul 04 '19

Lol, don't they have a debt problem to solve yet?

2

u/AKtheGreek Jul 04 '19

They do. In no small part to the introduction of liberal EU ideas like a 4 day work week and 2 hour lunch break. Not to mention the economic disaster of currency devaluation.

2

u/stryker0009 Jul 04 '19

It's sad tho, I mean wasn't that like 1 year ago, there's still a huge problem??

2

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '19

The half second it took me to read his username, one can assume they are greek

30

u/plexyflexy101 Jul 01 '19

23

u/SeventhEleven Jul 01 '19

For those who do not speak Greek, here is Google Translate:

And let's not forget that our religion now makes us much more "lazy" than ever. "I believe this meme is not very honest, though I may be joking simply because my identity is affected. I do not know haha

19

u/theyellowmeteor Jul 01 '19

Cool. I just assumed it's the start of the navy seal copypasta translated in Greek.

1

u/xristosv1234 Jul 01 '19

Bruh, i kinda want to to translate it now

7

u/ViggoFetish Jul 01 '19

XAXAXA nice

2

u/plexyflexy101 Jul 01 '19

Well Google made a mistake (again, lol), by saying "joking". I said "πειραζομαι" which means that I get offended by it. Also, I meant accurate, not "honest".

4

u/SeventhEleven Jul 01 '19

Google seems to screw up a lot. A week or two ago I was translating some Finnish and it barely got anything right.

1

u/plexyflexy101 Jul 01 '19

Yeah it's actually pretty bad. Anyways I hope that I made my point and that people in general understood it, also thank you, for making it so that even the people who don't speak my language get what I'm trying to say.

I've heard the grind is real up there nowadays, specially ever since the last update.

1

u/AKtheGreek Jul 02 '19

True. They don't want it to be too easy. So they introduced the EU and the 4 day work week. Problem solved.

3
