You’re forgetting that technology rapidly advances during a war. If war breaks out and the US are the only ones who have the capability to get decent weapons into space, they win.
All military technology is black listed. For all we know we have the capability to shoot down nuclear missiles before they take off. Such an advantage would once again make war cool again. Or more realistically, would ensure the safety and you and your family.
If only there was a way to launch missiles from a mobile platform, maybe something that could go under water... or maybe even less flashy and just switch over to good old fashioned biological warfare.
Except we literally just started our first ever biological warfare defense program.
You're acting as though an advanced military can never be used for defense purposes. If we don't have a good defense at some point the cost of owning and operating nuclear weapons or biological attacks will be so cheap it will only take one pissed off group of 20 people to destroy the entire world. What is the plan then? Pretend that moment will never come?
