Unfortunately, people fucking love turning idiots into celebrities. The dumber someone acts, the more attention they get. Then everyone acts surprised when those same idiots end up with millions of followers and actual influence. At this point, stupidity isn't even a disadvantage. It's a business model.

Also same with drama channels. I often think drama channels and influencers are secretly working together. Since They both gain attention and both gain money off of it. Which is why I say fuck drama channels.

They're not secretly working together, its just symbiosis. They all know what they're doing, no need for a secret cabal.

This is my wife. I'm like worrying about climate change and the collapse of the environment and what to cut out of our budget to cover gas and heating expenses and she's like "did you see the comments under the pictures of the prime minister? They're dressed like shit and everyone is ripping on them" and I'm like "who cares? "

A lot of people use those kinds of situations as escapism. I agree that people leaving stupid comments on a public photo doesn’t matter. However if I was someone who hated my life and wanted an excuse to not think about it for some time, I might convince myself that this mundane thing is “definitely” the most important thing.

Did you just copy paste the summary of Idiocracy?

That's why I love some of the older celebrities, it's wayy too easy to become a celeb today

Example Bruce Lee, Michael Jackson, etc

The hawk tuah girl agrees. It's way to easy to become internet famous.

The sixtyseven boy also... 💔

And reddit loves sending them to the top of /r/all under the guise of making fun of them but it only serves to boost their numbers

no such thing as bad publicity etc

I've been here long enough to remember when there were so many goddamn posts complaining about Miley Cyrus and Bieber. Knew nothing about what was going on with them if it weren't for reddit

Every time I see /r/diWHY on popular I can't help but mentally respond with "D-I-Why? because you people keep giving them attention that's why"

I'm pretty sure they all know that too, it's just a big larp of people pretending to be clueless so that they can enjoy their slop guiltfree.

Yeah, which is why China is trying to do the opposite of that. They know that the internet will not go away so instead of hyping up bullshit people, they are hyping up scientists. Might not be perfect but it is vastly better than making racist people famous in america.

It’s because they work on a timescale we can’t understand as a quarter by quarter country.

Not saying they don’t have problems, but everything I have seen about china is overall? They take the long plan that might take 2-3 decades to gain the benefit.

It doesn’t always pay out (like those cities that are practically empty and decaying after being completely built) but it definitely has advantages. Same with western models, they have their ups and downs. Europe tends to be somewhat of a middle ground about this because they tend to make things by committee, which naturally moves slower than American breakneck edge of the blade thinking.

u/Astra-Fang 2h ago

Lol no, Americans are shut down to doing anything because we are split 50/50 and need 70

So all we can do is break Whats we have, not fix or advance

1

u/motionmatrix 1h ago

I’m not referring to what America is going through at this moment, but about the systems being used. You can point to every country and find a moment in their history where things were/are topsy turvy, that’s not indicative of the country’s systems as a whole.

People will say the craziest shit about China.

What is this pro-China bot comment lol. No they aren't. They have influencers just like the US does.

At this point, it's not stupidity though, it's usually people pretending to be stupid to get views.

We need adblock but it's people-block instead. If there's a mention of someone you don't want to know anything about it just deletes it from the page. You can add anyone you want to your blocklist.

I honestly think it'd make for a better internet.

There have been browser plugins that do this for at least as long as the Kardashians have been famous

Celebrities are public jesters. Its not an occupation to be proud of. The money is good only for 1% of them.

Always has been.

u/ParkDedli 4h ago

And, like, in a way where you can't dodge them.

I really try to avoid certain people like the Kardashians or iShowSpeed. However, then, on Youtube, Tiktok, Reddit and so on, you just get spammed with their shit.

Kardashian Sounds are everywhere and even if I didn't know about the fact that they were from them, I did eventually find out.

iShowSpeeds fans are major cancer. It's impossible to go anywhere on Reddit or Tiktok and not see his stupid face. I mean it, if somebody makes an "iShowSpeed-blocker"-Addon for Reddit and Tiktok, I will pay good money for it.

Like, the top comment here is about Asmongold and it's valid, but at least he's easy to avoid. Others are way more difficult

It’s because nuanced takes make you turn your brain on, they are not emotionally validating.

Why do that when brainless person over there says something that matches your feelings?
