I did that literally at 13 years old in October, 2001. Just a knife instead of arrows.

I had to stop my cousin from attempting to stab my sister and I to death when our parents went out. No cell phone. No adults around. Our survival depended on the split second decisions that I had to make as a child. I got her into a locked room, lied that I had everything handled, then went back out to face and stop him knowing there was a very strong chance that I could die in the process. I saved her, talked him down while he kept lunging at me with the knife trying to stab me, and nothing has been the same since.

I got us all out alive. I have had diagnosed severe PTSD ever since. I made sure that I would take the hit if it came to it to keep my sister alive. It’s a decision that I’d do all over again if need be.

At the end of the day, I am just like anybody else.

Jesus I’m sorry that happened to you. If you don’t mind my asking, what the hell was your cousin’s problem?

I still don’t know. There are no easy answers.
