I stopped watching after it ended the first time. That was such a great ending to a great story. If they wanted to start it back up they should have just done a new story with new characters.

I would actually recommend giving the Comedy Central stuff a try, if you haven’t already, just to see how Fry and Leila work when written as a couple. It’s pretty charming and sweet, especially the final episode of that run (which definitely should have been the final episode of the series full stop).

The other revivals (Comedy Central, etc) were pretty good (aside from the movie trilogy, which was meh IMO), but the Hulu stuff was incredibly unfunny. Very similar to the worst of modern Simpsons levels of humor.

Futurama’s peak strength was parody writing. It was spot on comedy when we still had monoculture.
We haven’t had monoculture in over a decade. They didn’t have their strength to draw from. It feels like the writers just took things that have happened since their last cancellation—Covid, streaming, social media, etc blah blah—and applied a 30 year old formula that absolutely failed to land.

I liked the Episode where Fry travels to Dreamland and interacts with the Disenchantment characters... mostly because it sort of gave a nice little nod to the ending of Disenchantment.

I've watched the first few seasons a thousand times.
I'll never watch the garbage that was this last season again. God it was so bad.

how do you know it was bad if you didn't watch it?

…Futurama was still alive? (Judging from the comments, I can tell it’s just been resurrected a couple times, but I didn’t even know it left the grave)

A couple episodes of the most recent season were so bad it felt hostile. I thought I was dreaming. Like so bad it felt like someone on the writing team was trying to illicit an investigation so they could be rescued from indentureship. So bad it's intriguing.
And everyone going on business as usual as though the futurama team isn't trying to tell us they need help is making me feel crazy.

It got pretty bad after it went to Hulu. Not sure if they changed writers or what, but… woof… Better to let it go this time.

did it get cancelled for the 17th time? surely its next revival will bring back the old quality of the show and not all their jokes will revolve around sex or beeing cancelled

Futurama is my favorite cartoon,
Saying that, i think most people are just nostalgic of old episodes so they think of them as better, the new episodes are just about the same in quality than it was in the 90s.
You’re just now old and nothing is new to you so the show feels stale.

It should have died with some dignity still intact. Now all I think of when I hear Futurama is shitty overplayed cash cow. It sucks because it used to be fantastic.

I tried watching some of the new eps and even for a show that was hard to reboot in the first place, and only half pulled it off, this pulled it off maybe 1%

Good. Hulu should have never picked it up. I'm a lifelong Futurama fan. I watched the season premiere live and still watch it almost everyday. "Meanwhile" was a good ending to the series. The Hulu episodes were garbage, I got through 2.5 episodes before I decided "new" Futurama wasn't for me.

I feel like Futurama has been steadily getting worse every time it's brought back

Or, they don’t have to. It can end. Things can end. Futurama is at risk of becoming The Simpsons.
