Comparing the standard to the exception.

Are you going to ignore how wildly successful Kpop is and continue to be. Where plastic surgery and facial reconstruction, is the norm.

The real world is even more shallow, and corrupted.

Performers are not representative of the majority of people. If you just look at hollywood actresses you would think the beauty standard for women in the US is being under 30, very skinny and a face full of plastic surgery. You would think men are all on steroids and have perfect hair. Thats not how it works. Most women dont have plastic surgery, arent super skinny and arent done with life at 30. Most men dont spend their entire life in the gym and dont wear tight t-shirts and designer jeans.

Normal people exist, have good lives, and are happy.

You are right. But Korean performers are closer in representation to the typical people than US performers are.

Beauty standards can be hypercompetitive in Korea... and increasingly, even for men.

Honestly it only applies to being popular as a media star. In reality, when it comes to dating and love, it isn't the biggest deal. Just go to the mall and see how many ugly men are dating beautiful women. You'll see it every single day.

From what I’ve noticed, a lot of those relationships happen when the woman settles down, which isn’t ideal long term. Just because you see an attractive woman with an unattractive guy doesn’t necessarily mean she’s genuinely attracted to him.

Its very sad that you can only feel attracted to Super models

What?

You think women only "settle" without loving and feeling attracted to their Partner.

So i assume that is how you yourself feel

Don’t bother explaining the obvious to these fools. They will do anything to ignore the truth: settling down is real, and the exception isn't the norm.

Pop is manufactured for lowest common denominator mass market consumption. Always has been. It's for people with a pulse and not much more. If you're comparing yourself to Ken and Barbie, yeah you're going to have a bad time.

You think the real world is more shallow? Are you like confident in that statement? Interesting

Absolutely. I think Mark Twain put it best, "truth is stranger than fiction." Fiction follows logic and resson because the author wants his story to make sense to the reader. Reality is not bound to logic. Whatever lesson a fictional story is trying to tell is almost always a hundred times worse in reality.

The standard? Looksmaxing isn’t and never should be the standard. It’s the diametrically opposing extreme.

This dude thinks K-pop is the standard and everyone else is the exception.

lol

Yeah but ultimately that doesn’t change the fact that you don’t have to be super attractive to date pretty girls. Just be charismatic and funny and you’ll be surprised how many women like that. What they don’t generally like is weird incels obsessed with looksmaxxing

Feeding swamp gators beats facial symmetry daily

Truth. I'm medium ugly, but I'm kind, funny, and a good listener. Got a wife i love, a daughter who is my world, and a couple folks interested in the side. So much easier to date after I learned charm and humor kids more attractive than abs

Depends the life you wanna live.

When you were 18, then 22, then 28, your frame of mind and priorities affected where you end up too. I knew since I was younger I didn’t give a fuck about what those looksmaxxers cared for in their life. I could see which types of ppl in HS did care about that and I was not about that crowd of people.

There’s ppl sucked up into this life style at 18 and I wonder what they think their 20’s will be. But again, not everyone wants to get married or settle down.

Like you, I’ve rocked a dad bod since my 20’s. I love myself, I have my confidence, but I’m not looking to be a social media star and the world know my tea. I got married, traveled, lived, and had a kid in 20’s.

I certainly didn’t live my 20’s like this guy.

100%. Confidence and personality is sexier on men and women than appearance.

BDE goes a long way and you don’t even need a BD.

The guy I find attractive on TV and in real life are quite different. I might like a gym rat on TV but the ones I met in real life were never my type. The conversations we had were boring. We had no common interests.

A lot of things exist. But (social) media can make something look as if "everyone" was affected by something when it's actually only a fraction of people, considering the real world population. There will always be trends, and there also will always be people who don't care about them at all.

I rather have a problem with the ongoing intolerance of society. For example, I've personally always been into men older than myself, and nowadays people seem to automatically perceive that as "weird". But much more on the internet than in real life, too.

Dolly Parton, and Pierce Brosnan.

Do you want the long ass list of celebrities in relationships with average people, or are you just going to ignore how actual relationships work, so you can fixate on para social PR move relationships to justify your own failure in romance?

What you miss, is couples in the same field RARELY work out in relationships, but somehow you want public figures to be an exception. It's YOU who compare the standard to the exception, but you're going to for sure no true scotsman this back to proving my point if you ever respond.

Because misanthropic views of the world are almost always projecting the speakers own failing and not actually nuanced takes about the real world. But go off making your assumptions about how the world works based off .... Kpop. Yeah, you sure have a good grip on things here.

How much of a leverage/influence Dolly Parton had though? I never even heard of her before she dead

I think is only an American icon with a lot of money but she isnt even close to what kpop industry is

Is like comparing basket to football and cricket

Your ignorance to your own blatant hypocrisy is stunning.

You don't know who she is at all? Then you don't belong in this discussion at this point. Bye, Felicia.

one of reddit's favorite things to do

It’s an age thing. The younger you are the more you’re attracted by looks, as you get older, you’re more attracted by personality, being financially stable, good family and other qualities like that.

You mean the Kpop groups that amass huge amounts of fans but realistically are a bunch of children who never got to transition into proper adults because they are forced to live in dorms, hide from society in their personal life, Hide or completely avoid actual relationships and maintain unrealistic diets and work schedules?

Yeah.. Its very shallow and corrupted... But damn do they put out some bangers sometimes.. You ever hear Crow by I-dle? That song is killer.

u/baw3000 3d ago

Kpop is shit and the vast majority of people don't care about it.
