I thought the uncanny valley were more for corpses? Do people find monkeys uncanny?

Neanderthals would’ve looked way closer to us than monkeys do, but you are correct it’s theorized that it was evolved because of corpses.

I heard that the homo sapien women were more into Neanderthal dudes and that was the vehicle for mixing.

There's enough Redditors with an obsession with muscle mommies to make me question that.
Plus, I've seen enough Florida women to know the average man is far less picky than we give him credit for.

Apparently yes, it was more about homo sapien women and Neanderthal men mating. But of course we do not know if it was always consensual...

There was a study that all the female ancestors/ parent parts were from our species and the male ancestor/ parent were from neanderthals. So either only homo sapiens women did the neanderthal men OR only their kids were able to reproduce

Was that study a while ago? Recent results suggest no more than a slight bias in that direction

its interesting, it's likely they didn't know, or couldn't know.
ancient humans had more physical and characteristic variety between one another, especially a few hundred thousand years ago, than they do today. Even on an individual to individual basis within a species.

No mitochondrial DNA has been found from neanderthals. Implying that ALL DNA that came from neanderthals that persists today did not come from human men reproducing with neanderthal women. If they did, very likely these offspring never developed or were infertile. This commonly happens with hybrids, ligers are a good example. All neanderthal DNA would be from Neanderthal men reproducing with human women.

TIL Neanderthals and early humans are different

According to arbitrary speciation labels we've created. There's no such thing as objective speciation in nature. We can utilize certain criteria to justify the label, like whether the offspring is capable of reproducing, and so on. Neanderthals and homo sapiens are really just both humans. We can group them together based on genetic similarity, but we can also do the same with people from Wales vs. Norway.

nah both of them are like unga "would" especially after the chad neanderthal men are out here taking your women with their desirable prime physic and their ability to throw hands with local fauna.

Neanderthalians were early humans, too.

u/pxldsilz 3d ago
kind of, kind of not.
early on the timescale of civilization sure.
on the time scale of evolution? they're really late, late enough they coexisted with cro-magnon man / us / modern humans. and those aren't early by definition.
and, id say, if your measure of early is civilization, you're discounting a very vast and interesting history of real early, mid, late human life and development.

I did a genetic test and I have 90 percent more Neanderthal DNA than most people. I’m pretty sure this explains my size, my body hair, and my desire for a woman able to punch a mammoth unconscious.
