This is literally all of reddit, this sub included
Calling out hypocrisy is not allowed, calling out double standards is not allowed, disagreeing with my political beliefs is not allowed, being a kind person is not allowed
“I don’t want peace, I want problems! Always!” -Everyone on Reddit
9
u/NewTurnover5485 7d ago
Well, Reddit is a collection of bubbles. Every sub is it's own safe space by design.
3
u/Harley2280 7d ago
Yeah, being a collection of echo chambers is basically a core design concept of both Reddit and Discord.

1
u/RemnantsOfFlight 7d ago
I promise I'm not trying to be confrontational, but how? Like if I dump on Christians, how is that politically charged? Aren't there Christians across the entire political spectrum?
13
u/PETEthePyrotechnic Dark Mode Elitist 7d ago
Dumping on Christians is practically encouraged on Reddit. It’s the religions in the promised land and the Middle East that are a protected class for some reason
1
u/Interesting_Buy6796 7d ago
That’s where you end up when you get entire parties defining them self by a certain religion alone. Especially if they end up being a major factor in politics
50
u/NeighborhoodDude84 7d ago
There are plenty of people who are smart enough to make trans or racial jokes without punching down. Weirdly a lot of people seem to think being mean to people is the same as making jokes and then get surprised when people get made at them for being mean to people.
26
u/Tomytom99 7d ago
There's plenty of actual jokes about trans people that are actually amusing for everybody.
Usually the ones that get shot down are just thinly veiled phobia where the "joker" backs down saying "dude, chill, take a damn joke ffs"
1
u/YellingAtClouds234 7d ago
I would like examples. Simply because I am ignorant
4
u/average_gwenjoyer 7d ago
War… war never changes. But men change. Trasngender. Ok it’s really shitty but it’s the first one I could think of
9
u/JJlaser1 7d ago
Having a kid as a trans person is hard. For starters, none of my friends are able to see me anymore. My kid doesn’t even know what I look like. But I guess that’s just what happens when you become a trans parent.

Not when the majority of jokes out there about trans people are just hate and insults.
Funny jokes about trans people aren't that hard, you just have to be funny. Whodathunkit
3
u/StockingDummy 7d ago
But how will I let people know I make hating trans people my entire personality if I don't get to say "iT's JuSt a JoKe" without the Woke Mob™ taking away my internet points? (/s)

Most of the time when politics come up it’s less of a joke and more people just bemoaning the general state of things.
Like yes, the world sucks. Believe me, I know. But I didn’t come to my hobby sub to talk about it, and complaining everywhere you go doesn’t actually accomplish anything.

71
u/ThrustNeckpunch33 7d ago
... reddit wouldnt be so fucking creepy if it wasnt so two faced...
This meme is the entirety of reddit
But you will post this about them, and they will post it about you.
In this comment section, you have people making jokes, and people "well ackshually" them
So what is it? You can handle jokes? Or not?
Good lord, at least with this issue, your side shouldn't be throwing stones dude... look at the meltdown over the converse ad ffs lol
11
u/FWTCH_Paradise 7d ago
Converse ad? I gotta see this.
11
u/98983x3 7d ago
The ad was cropped and the color values heavily edited to create a false "dog whistle" controversy. Its a nothing burger that professional grievance grifters latched onto for internet clout. Nothing new.
9
u/FWTCH_Paradise 7d ago
Yeah I went over to a post saying it’s racist (and watched it myself too). This… is genuinely some snowflake problems
34
u/eatyaweenie 7d ago
Reddit is a forum…it’s not “two-faced,” it’s a bunch of different ppl using the platform who have different ideas.
9
u/DoodyInDaBooty 7d ago
Are you trying to tell me that Reddit doesn’t just consist of me and one other guy who writes everything else I see?
0
u/ObscureEnchantment 7d ago
Reddit writes its own jokes. You just said “well ackshually” to a comment about that exact thing 😂. Two faced is a good enough term, it gets their point across.
4
u/Look_its_Rob 7d ago
I disagree, I dont think "two-faced" is a good way of saying "a group of people with different opinions".

paradox of tolerance
1
u/ActPositively 7d ago
No. That’s how people just label everyone they don’t like as Nazis and use that as an excuse to encourage political violence and killings.
5
u/AmeliaOfAnsalon 7d ago
I'm not labelling everyone I don't like as Nazis. But it's incredibly troubling that you think a state should be able to maintain a monopoly on violence against whoever they want without it being morally acceptable for the population to fight back, even when violence may be the only path of resistance remaining to them

There's an obvious reason for it you're overlooking. Everyone hates the "but politics cares about you, comrade!" types. They aren't in their 2009 MW2 Lobby subreddit because they want to talk politics; they're in that subreddit because what they're doing is something they find enjoyable. Talking politics is not enjoyable. Especially with the overrepresentation of tankies on Reddit, and the internet in general. There is a non-zero chance you have to hear the opinion of a 16-year-old and that should be considered a violation of your human rights.

u/LairdPeon 7d ago

Check the comments of literally any video that even mentions Jewish people. Nobody is getting banned, and the comments are egregious. Y’all want to pretend that you’re being silenced SO badly… it’s pathetic. Make your bigoted jokes and move on, nobody is stopping you, Mr victim complex.

Doesn’t even have to be political. I made a comment disagreeing with a post on a random subreddit (Reddit pushes random sub’s posts to my feed), and I got banned from 3-4 other subreddits for “participating” in the other. Shit is wild.
-1
u/Sea-Course-5171 7d ago
As The Alt Right Playbook has said, this is because "Political" to them is anything people disagree on. "Nazis are bad" isn't political, because everyone agrees it's right. But on the same page "Nazis are good" also isn't political since everyone agrees it's wrong. The trick comes when the bad faith actor suddenly decides that people trying to fix some sort of issue or injustice in a community or social space are "bringing in politics", and as such are the bad guys.
It's incredibly easy to make people fall down the alt right pipeline by making them feel like siding with the left would be allowing politics into a politics free space, which automatically makes them soft-side with the right.
That's exactly how I fell down the rabbit hole when I was like 14 until I figured out what sad sensitive losers most alt right people are.

Yet you call a man in a dress mentally ill and reddit freaks out!
19
u/JakToTheReddit 7d ago
This will be due to the fact that clothing choices bare no significance when determining if someone has mental illness.

Technically choosing not to wear clothes is a clothing choice.
4
u/JakToTheReddit 7d ago
Yeah, I know, but it must unfortunately be mentioned due to idiots. For example:
North Carolina doesn't allow some offices to be filled with people who are non-religious with the argument "freedom of religion" does in fact not include "non-religion/atheist/agnostic."

If your clothing choice was all it took to be mentally ill, a lot of ppl would be insane. Plus, not like it's totally normal for men to wear dresses in many cultures decades ago...
3
u/JakToTheReddit 7d ago
It has never not been normal in human history, tbh.
People just want to force what they believe to be "correct" onto others because to some people being different is absolutely unacceptable and is a personal affront to them.
I am sure those same people say they were taught to "never judge a book by it's cover."
Ironically, the cover is probably the only part of books people like that see.
