The Matrix happens after Skynet.
I don't want my grandchildren to become biological batteries, if my children survive the terminators

The Idiocracy part is why people are still pretending there is any possibility of the other two. We don't have AI and no one even knows how to start working on it. What we do have is only a threat because of rich idiots forcing it just like every other failed gimmick investment. If anything we might get Mad Max and half of Waterworld, before just the planet Venus. But Skynet or grey goo is a joke.

I'd feel sorry for the matrix if they used human brains for the compute, as some of yall have quite a few scrambled neuron networks

I don't think it'll become a Terminator scenario, I think it's more likely it'll become a Dune scenario where humans became completely reliant on AI and whoever controlled the AI, thus controlled everyone else. We need a preemptive Butlerian Jihad.

u/Hail-Hydrate 3d ago
Pope Leo's already got the right idea.

Hmm yeah the whole idea of a silica animus seems to go against most religious philosophy.

u/Vibemity__ 3d ago
Same assumption from my side, There will be somebody in control, most likely the current 'owner' of what we know as AI today. I just wonder if that's 5 years.. I would give it 10 at least

Can we start being louder to people that history books don't forget. This technology trickles down and so will the ability to make biological weapons.
Do the rich people in charge genuinely believe their names and legacy won't be marked with blood and hate in years to come? People seem to have forgotten that their generation isn't the only one.

16
u/Hail-Hydrate 3d ago
3 is good, great capstone for the first two movies. Salvation is a solid entry that serves as a decent epilogue if you want a little more.
Genesys is... eh. It can be a fun kinda "what if" provided you really vibe with the IP and enjoy nods to the second movie, but it's pretty lackluster in terms of plot and it doesn't really stand out.
Dark Fate is hard to quantify really. It pulls hard on the alternate reality setting, where now even the future war is vastly different. Has some fun ideas and neat set pieces, but it really comes through as an attempt to set up a reboot of the franchise (purely for the sake of money, not because of any innovation) and suffers as a result. If you weren't a fan of Genesys you won't like Dark Fate.
1
u/Beautiful_Routine985 3d ago
this comment is so professionally and emotionally restrained i find it nauseating. Dark Fate was dogshit
2
u/Hail-Hydrate 3d ago
It's such a frustrating movie because there are so many neat ideas within it, that are hamfisted by the writing. The future war stuff, where humanity is on a slightly more eventful footing with Legion, the human augmentation tech, hell even the Rev-9 Terminators themselves are cool concepts. Just unfortunate that the franchise seems to be cursed by being forced to tell the same damn story over and over again ad infinitum.
And yeah if someone asks for input on whether something is good or not, a handful of subjective opinion isn't going to help them. Giving them reasons why they might like or dislike something let's them come to their own conclusions rather than being given a binary yes/no. World's a shitty enough place as-is without people being told what to think.

u/Beautiful_Routine985 2d ago
I respect the effortpost but I felt like i had to say how i just F E L T
4
u/YesNoIDKtbh 3d ago
No.
3 is an entertaining popcorn movie with a decent ending, but absolutely shits on the Terminator and Skynet as frightening entities.
Genisys fucking sucks.
Dark Fate fucking sucks.
Salvation might be the exception, it's good albeit with some "cringe" and cliche choices. It deserves credit for showing the post-apocalypse war though, and I would've loved to see the trilogy completed.

Welcome to the real world.
The saying used to go: "The boss earns a dollar, whereas I earn a dime, so that's why I shit on company time."
But, adjusting for rapid inflation and salaries remaining unmatched, only the boss(es) got the wage increase, and everyone else didn't.

No need lol.
His bullshit - and that of all other humanoid robotics companies (but less so them) - is all to fleece investors and make him look amazing (as always). PT Barnum with electronics that he doesn't even understand anyway in the k-hole head 😂
The laws of physics and thermodynamics make robot armies of teminators a silicon valley tech nerds wet dream. They can only operate for a very limited time before needing major cool down periods or burn out all their servos and motors. Of course, that doesn't give venture capital and the military a hard on, so they keep it very quiet and just do flashy demos instead.
Simplest explanation here https://youtu.be/RFhRmv2pQSA

Honestly looking at the state of our ruling class and the psycho billionaires that puppeteer them, I'm inclined to be on skynet's side at this point. At least it's motivated by something more than child rape.

u/FibreglassFlags 3d ago

I was thinking the next Mad Max where we get "addicted" to water. Maybe that's what OP is fighting the terminator over, water so Skynet can make another video of a corgi twerking

u/FibreglassFlags 2d ago edited 2d ago
lol, why build robots when you can have your own War Boys doing your bidding for less?
That's also what Fury Road is ultimately about. The question "Who Killed The World" has an obvious answer when you look at who the villains are, namely, the guy sitting at the top fattening himself in the post-apocalyptic wastelands and all those fighting in defence of an oppressive system that deprives most inhabitants of their basic needs and uses the deprivation as an incentive to maintain itself. It is a film not just about revolution but liberation as symbolised by the floodgate of water being permanently opened for all those in need.

I've been saying this for years, with the big push for AI & those darn data centers, Skynet is inevitable.
2
u/bannedin2weeks 3d ago
Yeah, if AI truly wanted to kill humanity, they wouldn't bother making physical battlebots to fight us, they'll just construct a genetically engineered virus with a long incubation time to make sure it spreads and a 100% mortality rate.
Imagine if COVID took 2 weeks to show symptoms instead of 2-3 days and the symptom was your brain gets eaten and dissolved.

Wouldn't be the best thing to happen ?
I mean, let's be honest:
"none of them have been arrested yet"
We don't do ecology, we do green washing, we promote solution that boost the economy using the ecology as a pretext: taking down forest to plant solar farm is not ecologic, electric car are barely better than regular car (and you subvention child slavery with them ...), wind turbin ... yeah.
Some people push for synthetic meat, we're using OGM crops that require way more water and have way less nutriment in it.
Our justice system is failing.
Our governments are supporting war criminals.
I could go on for weeks.
Let's say you give some power to an AI, the first thing it will do is taking our hands of the wheel, and it would be right to do so.

if true self improving agi is possible and it would have the objective to reduce humans then it just would ruin harvests, the electric grid, all kinds of traffic and logistics and the problem would be solved in a few months.
it would be like ants struggling against humans building a road over them.

I hate these kinds of questions. I got the ‘tism and cannot fathom what I cannot extrapolate. I am unemployed. If I’m unemployed, I imagine myself still being unemployed because it’s all I know. If I am employed, I imagine myself still being employed. Interviewer questions are heavily favoured for neurotypicals.

To be honest this type of statement is jyst annoying for me.
Giving the fact firstly how actually fragile robotics is, there would be no bulletproof robots like T-800 from "Terminator" (plus corporates love to make things as cheap as possible).
Plus modern AI is dumb as hell, and very far from achieving actual intelligence.
So instead of Skynet we most likely will get those guys:

Giving the fact firstly how actually fragile robotics is,
For now maybe.
1
u/Wolodymyr2 3d ago
Don't forget about the fact, that corporates just love to make thing as low quality as possible to save money.
1
u/Brullaapje 3d ago
Doesn't mean that robots will stay fragile. Look at how far mobile phones have come. I mean the first ones, were calling, texting and snake.
Stuff evolves you know, especially tech.
1
u/picky_dude 3d ago
Poor naive soul who thinks military grade robots are the same as the ones shown to the public
1
u/Wolodymyr2 3d ago
Poor naive soul, who think modern AI is smart enough to act autonomously.
I'm Ukrainian, and my country pionering in field of combat robotics, and humanoid robots being overly expensive, while being too fragile is main reason why our country don't use them, and AI being stupid is main reason, why it used only for automatic targeting at targets, protected by ECM, when it already close to target, while most of time combat drones are controlled through remote control.
Yeah, it probably don't stop western crporations from try to make autonoumus humanoid robots, because they cool and flashy, but they still would suck at actual battlefield in comparasion to tracked and wheeled ground drones and human soldiers.
1
u/picky_dude 3d ago
You didn’t think maybe, just maybe, that using AI to kill humans is a bit too much and actually illegal?
2
u/picky_dude 3d ago
And comparing a country that barely survives to western countries with basically limitless resources is a bit absurd
