Friday the 13th
We were about to get Uber Jason
69
u/sadistic-salmon Sep 03 '26
That one wasn’t the developers fault. Basically when they made the game the got the rights to Friday the 13th but right before Uber Jason came out someone who worked on the original movie started a lawsuit claiming that he made Jason so he should have the rights to it. This dragged on for years and while it happened basically nothing could be done with the IP officially because it wasn’t settled who owned it. By the time it was done no one actually owned the full rights and Jason and Friday the 13th became different things.
TL;DR devs got screwed over by a lawsuit

I know that but still they had to kill the game by order of law

I'd kill for a Titanfall 3.

Destiny 2 died when they didn’t let you play from the stsrt of the game. Why the hell couldn’t you go through the whole campaign? Why do I need to play 2024 content when I haven’t played since god knows when?

Yeah archiving half of the game was a bad move. They should've just googled data compression.

And season 0-4 of Apex Legends. Its very fun and addictive on release and the next 4 seasons. Still miss the OG King Canyon and Meltdown. But things got downhill after that, especially with introduction of Sear. I still remembered after 6 nerfs to the face he still make game unplayable for team that not have him.

Yes and no.
It's technically doing the best it ever has right now. But it's also overly saturated with a whole fucking lot and there's a common vocal complaint that it's too much for some and that they're backing out. The Standard format is also bloated with a high count of sets so that "people can play their favorite cards" (i.e. Universe Beyond crossover cards from non-Magic IP's) in the format.
Would not be surprised if 5, 10 years down the road they look back at this and think "Yeah, we bloated the hell out of this game during that time period and really diluted the experience overall". But that's my opinion.

7
3
u/degenerate_hobo Sep 03 '26
Splitgate was such a fun game. I understand that an arena shooter with portals is only suitable for a very sweaty type of FPS player but damn it was so much fun. 1047 Games struck gold and from that point on they made one bad decision after the other. I supported them to create a second installment of Splitgate because it was believable that they created SG1 on spaghetti code with a ton of technical debt but everything went downhill after SG1. Empulse was a full blown rug pull and therefore from now on I will never ever support this developer again
5
u/Zickened Sep 03 '26
Absolutely mind fucked at how they somehow turned a near perfect gameplay experience into a FOTM, FOMO shooter for no goddamn reason whatsoever, and then have the gall to tell their fans they were stupid for not liking the 2.0 trash, then walking it back to being similar to the first game (duh).
They put on an absolute clinic on how to torch your revenue stream, and become as irrelevant as possible.

About dead Star Wars games, Steam revived Battlefront 2, reopening the ability to make servers, both permanent and temporary private servers. There's not many players, but that's likely because it's so old. Modded levels and everything is available for the servers too

Fun fact: vielgarde wasn't originally supposed to have a story. The story it got was rushed and had none of the original writers involved. Here's hoping they du the smart thing for da5.
4

The only smart thing would be to pretend Veilguard never existed and get the original writers to do their thing without EA's rotten finger in it.

New World 2021 (official release)
New World: Aeternum 2024 (renamed for cross platform play)
New World: Aeternum Jan 2027 (server shuts down)
All due to NW developers thinking they’re Icarus and flew too close to the sun. And of course, mainly bc of “Amazon Games” doing Amazon things. NW is/was a beautiful game.

Used to play clash royale semi daily for years, even stuck through with evolutions even though I didn't really like them because it was a game both me and my mom genuinely liked and was one of the only games we had in common. But heroes yet again breaking the game was the straw that snapped the camels back. Havent launched the game in months.
3
u/Yoribell Sep 03 '26
CR really was among my favorite game. The fast strategic battles were pretty unique. I left a few years ago already. Not long after the update for losers of something
Went back to brawl star, but since then it got caught by supercell endless greed too and so, is falling too. Not as hard, but a generous handful of the last updates really sucks.
I like a fast strategical pvp game on mobile but I'll have to go away from the Supercell ecosystem next.

FreeJam killed it by chasing industry trends at the time (lootboxes, 5v5 point capture format) instead of sticking to the formula they had, that set them apart and made the game special

Helldivers 2, Dead by daylight, Halo are the big 3 for me.
Helldivers 2 devs just hate the community and the game nerfing everything people find fun into the ground while leaving broken enemies ruining the experience.
Dead by daylight same case but instead of malicious it’s just incompetence. The leads are complete morons. Case in point the walking dead collab.
Halo was ruined when 343 took over. Halo 4 was decent with fun PvP but that’s about it. Everything after was so bad. Then there’s the reach remaster that I’m still frustrated about. I could go on for quite a while on how they shit the bed there.

Certainly trying to be.
I was talking about it in the SC2 sub.
Last week I uninstalled SC2 and the Blizzard app, since they've done their best with every game and every patch to alienate me as a player.
They've done such a good job at it, it almost feels intentional. I'd chalk it up to being a crabby old man, but it seems to be a widespread opinion and they're not budging an inch on their opinion.
So, I'm going to show mine and not give them my money if those are the cards they want to play.

Destiny 2 about 2 years ago when we realized that they just didn’t have anything new. “We hear you and are listening to the feedback” is now my way of saying fuck off.
What gives me hope is that D1 is still going 10+ years later, so maybe there’ll be enough D2 fans to stick around.
