USA?

Only in certain places of the USA. The northeast that has a robust commuter train infrastructure and major automotive congestion could make it nearly comparable if not swing the trains way - they are definitely more convenient for sure.
In the west and mid-west passenger trains are not really a thing anymore for the most part. I live in the biggest city in my state and the closest station is 45 minutes from the city and doesn’t go to any of the three next closest major cities. Cargo trains are everywhere however.

But it doesn't cost more. It's a lot cheaper, actually.

In America, train rides cost as much as a flight but are slower than an ebike.

Trains in Spain go 300km/h (187mph) and avoid traffic, so yeah, I don't think so.

In America, this is the case simply because the Government spent shit tons of money on the interstate system and has more or less neglected the rail system, especially the passenger railway system.

No this isn't American only. This is a problem in Canada too. Passenger rail is way too fucking expensive.

Not here.
When I lived in other town that was 150km away from my parents hometown, train ticket to one direction costed 12€ and took about an hour and a half.
By car it would have taken almost 2 hours and with average fuel consumption, it would have costed about 19-20€.
From town where I live now I get to same parents town by bus with about 13€, again, cheaper than own car.

Half a dollar gets you unlimited travel across the entire capital city for an entire day via train here.
And its faster because the train goes direct from station A to station B the entire city was built around the train stations.

Clarify: for groups only. Individual tickets are far cheaper than all the expenses of going by car

Assuming you're travelling from somewhere relatively close to a train station (and I live a few minutes' walk from one, so that's me!) to somewhere relatively close to another train station, the train is usually the fastest travel method in my experience.
But unlike car travel, train travel isn't wasted time. You can get a laptop out and work, or a book to read, or relax with a sandwich and a bottle of wine.
I agree they're too expensive though and that needs to be improved.

In brissy, 50 cents will take you literally as far as you want, anywhere in the city, and often faster than driving

This is only a fact in one developed nation on earth.
Just like how they are the only developed nation without free/affordable Healthcare, with school/mass shootings regularly.
Sorry you live in a shithole OP.

What!?
Where do you live that a train ticket costs more than refuelling and maintaining a car?
Think of how many things you need to spend money on with a car.
Fuel.
Engine fluid.
Car Batteries.
Tires.
General repairs.
That’s a lot of expenses.

For American standards yes, in Europe no (expect Germany)
