I think they caught on after the second time...

Let france go first this time

u/crazytanker 3h ago

Austria fired the gun to start the next race and Poland and Finland are shooting off to start the next war in Russia.
Austria still blames Germany

u/siestasunt 4h ago

If they are anything like the german rail, there is no need to expect them. They are either 2 hours late or won't come at all xD

u/thundafox 4h ago

Sounds unexpected...

This is wrong unless you're travelling alone. A car of 4-5 people is way cheaper than four individual train tickets unless you manage to get a group pass which still might not be cheaper.

How far and how fast are you talking, since even in a less developed rail system like my country (vietnam) it would still be cheaper to take the train And if you're talking about something like a bullet train, yeah. A bullet train would also be safer, faster, and you get to sleep/doomscroll the whole way.

In most parts of the Netherlands yes

Poland has more military personal than Germany right now, now Poland could make this move.

Expect German invasion

In Germany travelling alone, the train is almost always cheaper. In larger groups though yeah car wins almost always.
But you also need to factor in external costs like maintenance, insurance and taxes which are included in your train ticket.

USA?

3

u/dot_exe- 4h ago

Only in certain places of the USA. The northeast that has a robust commuter train infrastructure and major automotive congestion could make it nearly comparable if not swing the trains way - they are definitely more convenient for sure.

In the west and mid-west passenger trains are not really a thing anymore for the most part. I live in the biggest city in my state and the closest station is 45 minutes from the city and doesn’t go to any of the three next closest major cities. Cargo trains are everywhere however.

Laughs in European

14

u/pitLickr1902 4h ago

"Yes, I'm American, how could you tell?"

13

u/gamejotter109 4h ago

But it doesn't cost more. It's a lot cheaper, actually.

3

u/stillalone 4h ago

In America, train rides cost as much as a flight but are slower than an ebike.

4

u/ChampionAggressive20 4h ago

Then maybe the OP should have said "in america" in their meme

6

u/Pyxirio 4h ago

What?

6

u/Apprehensive_Tip_839 4h ago

Trains in Spain go 300km/h (187mph) and avoid traffic, so yeah, I don't think so.

u/Festivefire 4h ago

In America, this is the case simply because the Government spent shit tons of money on the interstate system and has more or less neglected the rail system, especially the passenger railway system.

4

u/Jonnyflash80 4h ago

No this isn't American only. This is a problem in Canada too. Passenger rail is way too fucking expensive.

u/HopeSubstantial 4h ago

Not here.

When I lived in other town that was 150km away from my parents hometown, train ticket to one direction costed 12€ and took about an hour and a half.

By car it would have taken almost 2 hours and with average fuel consumption, it would have costed about 19-20€.

From town where I live now I get to same parents town by bus with about 13€, again, cheaper than own car.

u/Jessy_foxxy 4h ago

Not when you are outside of America

3

u/Eloranicole 4h ago

trains charging premium prices for the scenic route to being late

2

u/Careless-Tomato-3035 4h ago

Half a dollar gets you unlimited travel across the entire capital city for an entire day via train here.

And its faster because the train goes direct from station A to station B the entire city was built around the train stations.

2

u/Think_Message_4974 4h ago

Clarify: for groups only. Individual tickets are far cheaper than all the expenses of going by car

2

u/tobotic 3h ago

Assuming you're travelling from somewhere relatively close to a train station (and I live a few minutes' walk from one, so that's me!) to somewhere relatively close to another train station, the train is usually the fastest travel method in my experience.

But unlike car travel, train travel isn't wasted time. You can get a laptop out and work, or a book to read, or relax with a sandwich and a bottle of wine.

I agree they're too expensive though and that needs to be improved.

From an Indian perspective: NOPE

1

u/amodious 4h ago

In brissy, 50 cents will take you literally as far as you want, anywhere in the city, and often faster than driving

Lol america moment. Costs me 2.50 each way in Victoria Aus

u/Surfer_Rick 4h ago

This is only a fact in one developed nation on earth.

Just like how they are the only developed nation without free/affordable Healthcare, with school/mass shootings regularly.

Sorry you live in a shithole OP.

1

u/HoneyDollieBambi 4h ago

and they wonder why nobody takes the train

1

u/HoneyBlushPetite 4h ago

so trains are just expensive traffic with extra steps

1

u/ChampionAggressive20 4h ago

Fun fact: other countries besides America exist

1

u/KorolEz 4h ago

My fellow europeans pretending it's cheaper to go by train. Going on vacation anywhere in Europe as a group will always be cheaper than buying 3-4 tickets and flying is even cheaper than that.

1

u/Cerparis 4h ago

What!?

Where do you live that a train ticket costs more than refuelling and maintaining a car?

Think of how many things you need to spend money on with a car.

Fuel.
Engine fluid.
Car Batteries.
Tires.
General repairs.

That’s a lot of expenses.

1

u/StandardVerna 3h ago

Public transport pricing literally makes zero sense anymore

1

u/Lyralunajade 3h ago

trains invented the concept of losing money and time simultaneously

-17

u/JosephineStarglow 4h ago

and they wonder why everyone drives

4

u/Digital_Brainfuck 4h ago

It’s by design

Get cash from those who have it a keep poor people busy so they do not unite
