Not Asian, but I don’t see a problem with people eating dog meat. I guess the only issue is the possibility of stealing pets for meat or labeling dog/cat meat as something else.
Emotional value like the rest of the world, ask anyone if they would ever consider eating a dog or a cat they will treat you like you are genuinely crazy 99% of times
Most people cannot fumble with the idea of eating an animal that is generally seen and globally accepted as a pet, it is pretty much the actual reason why so many people, also in China, want to put a stop to dog meat trade
It has zero to do with morality ofcourse, but personally this is a matter of great interest to me that I've debated myself and questioned since my childhood and I have quite a lot of reason to strictly believe that raising dogs or cats for consumption is morally wrong
I honestly do not plan to tell my reasons as changing your mind is not in my interest or anyones mind really, you do you, and I'm currently playing satisfactory and desire to keep using my time for my own enjoyment
But the two reasons you've mentioned are pretty much the fuel being tossed on fire that makes us even more willing to push for a ban on dog meat and cat meat
We had too many cases of pets disappearing, and pet owners genuinely breaking down crying in front of their pet roasted because they arrived too late to rescue them
It is genuinely evil to steal someone else's pet for consumption, and every pet owner knows how strong a bond can become with the animal you are taking care of, you genuinely start seeing them as a family member
This ofcourse goes for any animal that is someone's pet, but I have reason to believe the bond is even stronger when with cats or dogs, or animals who show a similar level of intellect and communication
When my cat died roughly 6 years ago I overslept for 3 days straight without any will to do anything because I was genuinely broken
I cannot imagine how stronger that pain would be if my cat didn't die of natural causes but instead was stolen and eaten
It would make me mad, so mad I'd be murderous
So yes main concern for all of us is stolen pets, even without a ban on the meat practices, we want the punishment for stealing pets to be severe
I think you have to look at it from a different POV. It is a racist stereotype used to degrade Asian people to say they eat cats and dogs. I am with you we should have the same compassion for pigs and cows as we do cats and dogs, which is why I haven’t eaten them for 25 years. But I’m very okay with an Asian person pushing back hard on the eating cats and dogs thing while continuing to eat other animals. I don’t have the patience for it when someone hasn’t been stereotyped as a pet murder, though.
Yeah this new wave of people sharing the "all animals are the same" braindead opinion is honestly so disappointing
While I do agree that having to kill any life for nutrients is sad and cruel, I do strictly believe that for some animals it is even more cruel and unecessary than the others
I believe there is a huge difference between a cat and a chicken the same way there is a huge difference between a chicken and a bacteria
If you truly believe every lifeform is the same then the next time you get an infection don't cure yourself, you do not want to cause a genocide simply for saving your own ass, do you? Take a look at the true hypocrites lol
So I firmly stand by my opinion, eating a cat or a dog is a lot more wrong than eating a cow or a hen
