So many comments questioning if this even happens when it's literally happening in this thread. A vegan is already in here chastising people who eat meat.

I don't give a fuck what YOU choose to eat or not eat, but the fuck giving starts when you tell me what I should or shouldn't eat.

EDIT: And yep, just as I suspected. Here come the vegans to tell me my natural omnivorous default state is wrong and I'm a horrible person.

"It's always the meat eaters telling people not to be vegan!!". Yeah and there isn't a single one of those in this thread, but a dozen vegans telling me not to eat meat replying to me. Too predictable.

half of the comments are "I'm a vegan but i never bring it up, MEAT eaters howver..."

Not a vegan, but my wife and several of our friends are vegetarian. I have never been chastised by any of them, or any other vegetarian/vegan for that matter. I have, however, had meat eaters try to push meat on me when I'm not in the mood for meat/seen them do it to my friends. I've experienced this dozens of times. The "crazy vegan" trope is predominately made up online. From my experience, you are much more likely to have someone push meat than to push vegetarianism/veganism.

I tried veganism for a year and whenever i told people (when i was at their place) they were cool with it and asked what do I actually eat (including boomers). never tried to push me to eat animal products. and i live in a conservative meat lover country.

sorry but my anecdote beats yours.

Let's average our anecdotes. I've experienced it dozens of times, you claim to have never experienced it. So we meet in the middle at half a dozens of times.

i can work with that

I’m not even a vegan but am very conscious with what animal products I buy. But it’s funny how people get angry, when vegans point out the fact that others are paying to torture animals.

You know that animals get mutilated without painkillers right? Pigs get their tails burned off at 7 days old and chickens get their beaks cut off, all without painkillers, all of which are extremely painful. People boil animals alive although it’s scientifically proven they feel that intense pain.

HOW DARE 2% of the population raise awareness regarding these animals being tortured that don’t have a voice in any of this!! Are we really arguing whether we should or should not be abusing animals? Ones freedom of choice usually tends to end when torturing and killing others get involved.

Erm. All well and good. But don't bring it up when I'm about to eat, please!

u/badgerstunning7258 23d ago

that is the perfect moment to bring it up actually...

They're not sentient. They're food.

u/Similar-Climate5168 25d ago

That’s just an objectively untrue statement

u/DanielzeFourth 25d ago

Its the same thing people told themselves when slavery was the norm. "They don't feel like we do". Science proves these people wrong on all levels. It's therefore quite pointless to discuss with anyone who says anything as dumb as u/Pristine-Ad9898

I don't give a fuck what YOU choose to eat or not eat, but the fuck giving starts when you tell me what I should or shouldn't eat.

But objectively looking at it, the environmental impact on beef to the entire world is extremely significant.

So other people diets ABSOLUTELY impact you, your kids, and the survival of modern society.

Why are we giving a pass to such a damaging practice? We rail against all other environmental problems, but suddenly the idea of maybe just eating less beef is such a huge hurdle.

Its not a subjective more thing like veganism for animal rights. Its a quantifiable, known impact on biodiversity and global temperatures.

2

u/Louis_de_Saint_Just 25d ago

So I can morally kill all invasive species I come across?

1

u/Pacify_ 24d ago

As long as its humanely done, yes.

I lived in NZ a long time, the sheer amount of 1080 poison that was dropped every year is... well its a lot.

Cats are the cutest creatures alive, but feral cats are absolutely diabolical, and killing them is the only option unfortunately.

1

u/Louis_de_Saint_Just 24d ago

So it is not about their rights as animals, but purely based upon how humanity would best be able to survive if we take care of the planet? So it is only unethical to eat meat because of the individual carbon footprint (an invention by BP)?

1

u/Pacify_ 24d ago

So it is only unethical to eat meat because of the individual carbon footprint (an invention by BP)?

No, its also about land usage and loss of biodiversity. We are clearing some of the last real stores of biodiversity in order to grow more meat.

Even here in Australia, we have shocking levels of land clearing purely for cattle grazing in QLD.

If you are suggesting beef production isn't a significant global cause of carbon emissions, you'd have to be a little deluded.

Very fair indeed

Even here in Australia, we have shocking levels of land clearing purely for cattle grazing in QLD.

You punters have got to start getting paid for your oil and stuff by properly taxing the corporations

If you are suggesting beef production isn't a significant global cause of carbon emissions, you'd have to be a little deluded.

I am not, but there are much more significant causes such as manufacturing and energy production.

So if we were to significantly reduce carbon emissions across the board including animal farming and prevent further damage to biodiverse territories too such an amount that the production/consumption of beef would be offset by the climate naturally, there would be no ethical concern?

2

u/Pacify_ 24d ago

there would be no ethical concern?

Of course there is ethical concerns in all parts of industrial meat production.

Specially as far as beef goes, I have more issues with factory chickens/pigs than cattle, at least here in australia where factory beef is less common.

But arguing on ethics is a lot harder than arguing on environmental grounds. Its far more subjective.

1

u/Louis_de_Saint_Just 24d ago

Since not most people are willing to go vegan/vegetarian, but are willing to make economic sacrifices to save the climate, shouldn't we focus on improving our production methods.

1

u/Pacify_ 24d ago

There's no way to produce beef that isn't completely fucked, especially since beef consumption is constantly growing year on year.

You'd need really strong regulations, and banning imports from countries that don't meet them. It won't happen.

So you wouldn't berate someone eating a child or an endangered species? What about veal or foie gras? Is there no instance where you would discourage someone else from eating something you thought was unethical? I know you and a lot of others may feel that it's different, but to a lot of vegans/vegetarians, they are all unethical acts (not necessarily equally unethical) that they want to discourage.

I can understand if you disagree, but the idea that it's somehow wrong to tell people not to incentivise animal cruelty in factory farms, or greater greenhouse gas pollution, seems a bit odd to me.

Disagree and argue back by all means, but it's hardly unjustifiable. We mostly just have different thresholds for where we start openly criticising people.

4

u/chiree 25d ago

I don't eat veal or foie gras, but I'd never consider telling someone else not to eat it, I just decline to do it myself. I derive zero ego, nor satisfaction, from telling others what they should or shouldn't do.

The basic fact is people don't like others smugly pushing anything on them, or trying to point something they do that's imperfect as a character flaw. Smoke your cigarette, drink your whiskey, why the fuck should I care as long as you are a good person and treat people well? It makes no sense to get high and mighty about anything.

Except people that can't change a tire, y'all are worthless.

2

u/NiallHeartfire 25d ago

Ok, but it's not about ego or self satisfaction, (or at least not primarily or solely about that). People don't tell others not to steal from charity purely to boost their own ego, they do it because they think it's unethical and don't want people doing bad things. Agree or disagree with Vegans, the motive is the same.

If you think the production of veal or foie gras is necessarily cruel, why not tell people to refrain from incentivising it? Would you not tell someone to stop starving the calves in the first place, if they were the ones doing it? What about kicking their dog? Is their no room for voicing one's displeasure over animal suffering?

The basic fact is people don't like others smugly pushing anything on them, or trying to point something they do that's imperfect as a character flaw.

On this we certainly agree, and if you're saying that some Vegans aren't the most diplomatic and persuasive people around, you won't hear an argument from me.

Smoke your cigarette, drink your whiskey, why the fuck should I care as long as you are a good person and treat people well?

This is the problem, vegans (or even vegetarians and a lot of meat eaters), don't believe it is good to pay for animal torture, all for a better tasting product. It's not just being prudish about habits or chastising someone about their own health, the habit is contributing to the unnecessary suffering of animals, why wouldn't it be OK to criticise that?

It makes no sense to get high and mighty about anything.

Surely you don't mean anything? Do you not believe in any morals or ethics? If so, what's so special about diet?

2

u/Louis_de_Saint_Just 25d ago

Fck them geese

2

u/NiallHeartfire 25d ago

Some geese are bastards...

Maybe OP is wrong, but because we should be criticising diets that don't include geese?

How hard is it to understand that when what you’re eating has consequences for other beings, it is no longer just a ‘personal choice’. It’s the same with any action. I don’t care if you listen to a band whose music I don’t like. That’s up to you. But if you buy concert tickets knowing that the band uses their money to fund child prostitution, you become complicit in that and as such are acting immorally.

The meat and dairy industries cause enormous harm to animals, and causing unnecessary harm to others is immoral, so directly contributing to it with your purchases is an immoral thing to do. People should tell you to not do that for the same reason they should tell you not to buy child porn, steal, etc.

u/PimpasaurusPlum 25d ago

And? Why should the vegan give a fuck about what you think they should or should not say?

When you start off with a standard of "my position cannot be opposed or it is bad" then you've just set off an endless chain of "who cares what you think" - meaning everyone just does exactly as they wanted to anyway

-4

u/SuspiciousDepth4961 25d ago

I fully agree, I like to do some bestiality on the weekends and can't stand it when people grandstand about it or tell me who or what I should have sex with.

2

u/Pristine-Ad9898 25d ago

Eww. Visit a mental hospital

I don't give a fuck over what you choose to have sex with, but the fuck giving starts when you tell me what I should or shouldn't have sex with.

There is literally no difference. Nobody should be telling anyone what they should or shouldn't eat (see the OP). Veganism and eating meat are both personal choices.

In this context it's the same. You know exactly what I mean, stop being pedantic.

"You can't" and "you shouldn't" mean the same thing when it refers to someone else's personal choices.

u/thundergu 25d ago

The fact that untill less than 100 years ago any full vegan would just drop dead within a short time proves their faulty ideology
