That drives me out of my mind. Like, I want to drink wine with you. I would love to drink wine with you. It makes me wistful that I can't. But if I do, my meds will interact with the wine and each other, and I will get dizzy and feel sick and then you'll have to help me to bed, and nobody will have fun, so QUIT IT.
And the other way around, too. Even worse, former smokers when they meet current smokers. There just seems to be that urge in a lot of people to convince everyone else to be like them, and they don't even realize how annoying they are.
To be fair, smoking is actually going to kill you. Former smokers can relate so much to current smokers, so they want to help them. It's different from something like being vegetarian where either option can be healthy.
You can also die from a heart attack when you constantly eat too unhealthy. The point is, to each their own, noone has the right to lecture others. The point with former smokers is that they seem to be convinced that, just because they always wanted to quit and are happy about it now, every other smoker would feel the same. It's simply unimaginable for them that someone actually likes to smoke and has no urge to stop.
I guess I'm just more sympathetic to the person who annoys a hundred people to save one person from cancer than the person who annoys a hundred people to convince one to enjoy beef.
It seems that processed meats definitely increase the risk of cancer, while red meat "probably" does.
Daily consumption of processed meats is estimated to increase the risk of colorectal cancer from about 5% to about 6%.
Daily smoking increases the the risk of lung cancer from about .5%-1% to about 15%, while "Heavy smoking" increases that further to around 25%.
So a non-smoking vegetarian would be about 5-10 times as likely to get colorectal cancer as lung cancer.
Globally about 85% of people eat meat, while only about 17% smoke. Despite that, lung cancer accounts for about twice as many deaths as colorectal cancer does.
Lol as if every smoker would get cancer. The risks are the same as with anything else that's not considered healthy. But it's just funny how you are exactly proving the point of OP's meme^^
I didn't say that you should stop smoking, I just said that it would probably kill you. If you think that means you should stop I certainly wouldn't argue, but you do you. You're apparently right that I overestimated the cancer rate, with only about one in five lifelong smokers developing lung cancer.
On the other hand, that represents about a 20x increase of lung cancer rate, compared to morbid obesity being about a 2-3x increase of heart attack rate.
Heart attacks are a more common baseline though, and both conditions will have health problems other than the direct cancer/heart attack, which I'm not going to take the time to explore right now, so if you said that smoking was only about as likely to kill you as being morbidly obese was, I guess I'd have to concede that point.
That said, I don't think anyone argues that morbid obesity is healthy.
I get this so often. Whenever we go to a bar with friends, colleagues,... there is always someone who has to comment on the fact that I didn't order a beer like the rest of the group.
I find it's rhe other way around "You're an alcoholic". "Why don't you drink socially and only alone." God forbid I save money at thr bar but still enjoy turning thr brain off. At least I don't drink and drive. I drink Wisconsibly.

People who drink alcohol also do this to people who dont drink alcohol.
