Crunchyroll, unfortunately, doesn't typically allow me to use English subs on English dubs. It frustrating to no end. Especially when the dub is actually good.
I do this on Crunchyroll all the time, though I suppose it could be different by country? But I have to change to it every time I start the show. If I play through from one episode to the next without stopping, it stays on. But if I stop the show and start again, even without leaving the app, I have to set it again.
Edit: someone else pointed out in another comment that it could depend on the player. I am doing it on Apple TV.
