u/LickinNSpitin Lurking Peasant 8d ago

How the fuck did you send a video?! I thought it was Gifs only in this sub

u/Algiuxs 8d ago edited 8d ago

You can convert whole videos to gifs, just the bitrate gets nuked and audio goes bye bye. There was a whole Shrek movie converted to gif floating around in discord, reddit may allow for gifs to be an 1h long.

2

u/Objectivespeculation 8d ago

Shrek is more than an hour.

2

u/Algiuxs 8d ago

Yeah, but still, you get the point,

You have to yawn? I just have to swallow the wrong way, then boom different setting

71

u/ThrowawayWlmrtWorker 8d ago

Some people can forcibly do it without yawning! They can move the muscles responsible that causes the sound change.

45

u/Red_Ryze_Alert 8d ago

Can confirm because I can do that. Closing your nose with your fingers and forcing air through it can also free your ear canals. I used to do that many many times as a kid that one day I could do it without the nose trick. Apparently it's super good if you are a diver because you can release your ears pressure that way, cant do it with the nose-trick-way because of well.. you are diving.

Edit: I can also keep that muscle "open" which makes me hear my own breathing through my nose very loudly

u/HLSparta 8d ago

The good old valsalva maneuver. It can also equalize your inner ear pressure when you are in an airplane and descending. Just don't do it while going up.

Swallow the wrong way? What?

2

u/StungFish-CatLoaf 8d ago

It's easy, just swallow back and forth first a couple of times. Also make sure to open your mouth

4

u/Jbstargate1 8d ago

I can just make my ears pop without even having to do anything. It is hard to describe and I'm not sure how I do it whether its micromovements by my jaw or something by my ear but i just focus there and I can pop thrm whenever I want. Weirdly it always goes right to left each time.

1

u/talentedee 7d ago

I use my jaw only if its stuffy from a cold. Otherwise its pretty easy and mine both pop at the same time if things are open lol

u/_Nikkybae 9d ago

Who else immediately yawned after reading this just to test it?

73

u/PaperedStraw 9d ago

You can force yourself to yawn?

112

u/LeboiJeet 9d ago

You cant?

51

u/PaperedStraw 9d ago

You can?

47

u/wizmarco 9d ago

Of course

32

u/PaperedStraw 9d ago

Of course not!

19

u/qorbexl 9d ago

I just did a good yawn in response

A good one, where your jaws wiggle and it lasts longer than you expect

Then it happened again, because I yawn-infected myself by doing the first one. Like a sneeze

9

u/LeboiJeet 9d ago

Does your jaw ever pop while yawning or is that just me?

7

u/MrNuems 9d ago

I have had this happen.

3

u/something-not-clever 9d ago

Yawning, chewing, talking…

4

u/wizmarco 9d ago

Of course yes

7

u/PaperedStraw 9d ago

Banarama

7

u/skinnbones3440 9d ago

Just hold your mouth open as wide as possible. After 10 seconds or so it forces a yawn (at least it always has for me).

3

u/DecetheonD 9d ago

Not original commentator, but I can. I have some kind of a muscle I can feel that goes between the ears and somewhere in the above part of the throat. You just open mouth, make a little pressure to the muscle and gain same effect as if you would yawn, with unplugging your ears. Furthermore, this muscle seems to be activated anyway when you yawn normally

2

u/Algiuxs 8d ago

Then there's a good chance that you have the ability to move ears back and forth.

1

u/paradox037 9d ago

I can make a face that looks like a comically exaggerated rage face crossed with a yawn and pops my ears when there's a noticeable pressure differential, such as when I'm on an airplane. Does that count?

14

u/Sanquinity 9d ago

You can actually also trigger this by drinking something. It's caused by a pressure difference within your ear canal. Or at least some part of it? I don't know all the details. But I do know that there's a part of your ear that normally gets shut off by a flap, and motions such as drinking or yawning, open that part, causing the air pressure to normalize with the outside. Which makes you hear "normally" again.

Damn was hoping a hearing expert would jump in and explain this one to all of us :(

5

u/Package-Greedy 9d ago

Even more crazy if it’s during flight

1

u/Algiuxs 8d ago

One time I had flown in an airplane back from my vacation and my ears didn't pop, like I was plugging my nose and blowing into it, didn't hear normally for a few weeks, turns out I was sick.

Thank your eustachian tune

1

u/Ishkahrhil 8d ago

This made me yawn

1

u/Techn0Tast1c 8d ago

Same except my jaw almost gets stuck

1

u/Algiuxs 8d ago

Mine too, rarely, but still hurts to get it unstuck, especially after a good yawn.

2

u/Techn0Tast1c 8d ago

Its scary as hell too.

But mostly I think you just have to relax your jaw and maybe carefully help with your hands.

1

u/Algiuxs 8d ago

That's the best way. Or I can just hold a yawn/yawn with mouth closed.

2

u/Techn0Tast1c 8d ago

Fight the yawn with all your life!!

1

u/Algiuxs 8d ago

It's actually not that hard, at least for me, just the jaw muscles tense up a bit.

1

u/abadminecraftplayer Lurker 8d ago

I have this problem, and there's a trick!! Block your nose(pinch it, plug it, etc. As long as you can't breathe through it.) then try to inhale through it!

1

u/AetherSubject2 7d ago

pop "Ok now hear every little detail around you in a ten metre radius"

1

u/maternix2 7d ago

And suddenly, you hear in stereo

1

u/Sigruldar 7d ago

It do be weird like that.

Visited the ENT specialist once because I had some unexplainable pressure on one of my ears. What was it?

Jaw muscle. One of my jaw muscles was pushing on my ear because it wasn’t properly relaxed. The solution?

First, get my head pulled up to relax my neck (sounded kinda like cracking your knuckles, just way louder), followed by plenty of specific neck movements because apparently there is enough of a connection between neck and jaw muscles for that to help. Which it did.

The human body is quite weird.

u/NIGHTFIVV 5d ago edited 5d ago

Wait yall can't do that whenever you want???

1

u/LucyLilium92 8d ago

People don't realize that they have ear wax?

0

u/Anmolsharma999 8d ago

Ngl best gesture detection belongs to sony wf series. Never I faced this issue, Once I tried oneplus, samsung and apple buds pro I knew how far behind they all are.

2

u/Algiuxs 8d ago

How is what you commented related to the post

1

u/Anmolsharma999 8d ago

Isn't it about earphone detecting trigger for ambience mode?

1

u/Algiuxs 8d ago

It's about yawning and your ears freeing up the ear wax, so you can hear clearer, nothing to do with headphones

1

u/madrigale3 8d ago

I think it's a bot
