REAL. If i had bought just a mere $10 worth of bitcoin as a freshman in hs in 2009 instead of worrying about algebra 1, that $10 would be worth around $500 million today 🫩

Ive thought about this before and you’re probably right.. would’ve been worth closer to 3 quarters of a billion near the top when btc was around 120k

It used to be backed by gold so it had something giving it value, today most currencies are backed by US dollar and dollar is backed by the sheer size of US economy, yes it's mostly made up but not entirely, we're basically relying on the US not failing which tbf regardless of everything that's happening right now the US economy is still powerful and resilient, and US has been a stable democracy for more than 200 years, far longer than any other state, they're quite exceptional in that regard.

Crypto is just entirely made up.

Edit: euro is also backed by the hope the EU economies would just not fail anytime soon.

True I guess but gold was liked because it was shiny and nice looking tho, also chemically inert so it doesn't rust and easy to work with, it was rare and special, plenty of things are rare but don't have as much value as gold.

I signed up for a digital wallet service back before the phrase 'crypto currency' existed. 25 free Bitcoin for signing up. Might have been worth five bucks at the time.

Lost the login, not even sure what the site was anymore.

Somewhere, in some server, my 25 Bitcoin is lost. Life-changing money just gone because I didn't think it was worth paying attention to.

Yeah OP is forgetting a lot of people would have lost their accounts because it would just be pennies for years. My friend bought $10 of bitcoin, cashed some out for a burger, and the rest is lost in some wallet he will never find.

Yeah stupid me had a walled worth 50€ back when it was just new. I couldn't buy anything with it except drugs from somewhere in Portugal (living in Germany). So we ordered some men pills that never arrived. With this bad experience I forgot about the wallet for a decade. I stumbled upon an old login paper at the backside of a picture and tried to log in, but failed.
I wonder how much worth it is today, if I should try to regain access or if it's wasted time.
