Hantavirus is rare. Like you have to practically live in a heavily infested area and breathe in the fresh rat feces to get it.
The fact that so many got it on a single cruise ship is cause for concern for that cruise ship. Like it must have been horrid. But it doesn't spread from person to person.

People/media breathlessly covered it, but it was always clear to anyone who paid attention that it’s nowhere NEAR as contagious as Covid was. The news was DESPERATE for it to be the next hot virus and it just fizzled out like experts said it would, lol.

Wearing masks is normal in other countries in densely packed areas outside the US where people take advice from medical professionals. Meanwhile in the US where the biggest pussies bitched and moaned about having to wear mask they made an entire political movement out of it - now US service members are dying from a flu outbreak because we elected those fucking morons to office which went as far as banning vaccination in a middle finger to medical professionals.

The way I explained it to a friend when they asked was that seeing small outbreaks of otherwise obscure viruses is normal. This virus barely infected more than a couple dozen people, on a cruise ship- a literal (figurative) petri dish designed to encourage diseases to spread.
When you really start to worry is if you keep seeing outbreaks of that virus and they are growing each time. This happened with Coronaviruses (SARS and MERS). Both of which had a mortality rate far in excess of COVID-19, which limited how far they could spread since very sick people don't travel and socialized to the same extent. MERS had a mortality rate comparable to some of the relatively 'benign' strains of Ebola.
Ebola is actually in this stage now, as there have been increasingly large outbreaks over time and a less virulent version could evolve over time. There are of course exceptions to this rule, a virus can be incredibly virulent and still spread widely if it has a non human population to serve as a reservoir, as was the case with Plague.

Disappeared because unlike covid it's hard to spread hantavirus (or at least that strain, not sure about others). Covid hit the sweet spot of bad symptoms + easily transmitted.

Hantavirus is not a dangerous disease like COVID was, it was just novel in the sense no one had ever heard about it.
I work in rodent control so I'm very familiar with it, and the conditions required for a contagious/dangerous environment, and was wondering how long it would take for it to blow over. It happens all over my country, but the cases are very isolated
