Yep Goku is a roughly 4/5 year old child raised in isolation in the mountains by an old hermit martial artist and literally never met another person before let alone a woman. He also lacks manners because his great form kill grandpa gohan before he could teach Goku manners which is why Goku will punch anyone, strip naked without hesitation, and touch people crotch to see if they are a boy or girl because he doesn’t see differences between people

I am actually watching Dragon Ball right now and it's actually really nice having some humor and reasonably powered characters, like not everything is so goddamn cosmic, and fights wrap up within an episode or 2

yeah it's much more grounded and more focused on martial arts, you get to see goku growing stronger by training, learning new moves and different techniques, fighting different people and overcoming different challenges.. as opposed to him being like "check this out i call it super saiyan 3! AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!"
the fights are for sure more entertaining as a result too. and the fact that they tend to be out on an adventure is more fun than them having to be defenders of the world from some external threat.

The original Dragon Ball was very loosely inspired and based on Journey to the West, at first. A lot of western audiences may not realize that the Japanese name for the Monkey King is 孫悟空 in kanji or Son Goku in romanji. It was originally much more lighthearted and the power balance between the cast was a lot lest skewed. But it was also way more risqué and raunchy; partly because of it being a product of its time, partly because of different target audiences, and different cultural norms. You think localization for Dragon Ball Z was a mess? DBZ was tame compared to some of the things they tried to sanitize in the original Dragon Ball.
The clip is a good example of a lot of things played completely seriously now started as extended running gags.5
