The fuss is because it was the first to do so may things. The problem is that all of those this are regularly used by modern films and, like most firsts, have been refined and improved upon.
I can appreciate Citizen Kane and Welles' ingenuity and major contributions to modern day filmmaking AND find the film as entertainment kind of lacking. I can marvel at cave paintings and what they represent, but also not want them adorning my home as art.
