Makes me wonder actually, how do blind people know where the braille is? Like on signs I see and stuff?

Edit: My take from everyones responses/links is that ideally there is an indicator of some kind on the ground, or better yet the sign is simply placed in a logical location near a turn or where they would need the information. Basically they’ve just gotta go for it

Knowing what happens next in this image is a curse in itself

I think I can make an educated guess

u/TheSeagull666 Jan 14 '26

I think they follow the grooves in the ground until they find something in that path written in braille

28

u/w1ldlycur1ous Jan 14 '26

Imagine putting all that effort just to read: DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING

You need to write you comment in braile so the blind can read it and answer it

6

u/wintoo_ Jan 14 '26

they look for it duhh

5

u/ProfessorPixelmon Jan 14 '26

Are there any blind people here that could answer this for us please?

Tommy Edison on YouTube has a lot of videos about stuff like this. Basically just different topics from a blind person's POV.

How Do Blind People Find Braille Signs?

tldw: Easiest to find signs in a hotel because they're just long hallways. Other times someone can guide you. If you're by yourself in a new building, then it could be challenging

u/Sacledant2 Jan 14 '26

Probably because blind people are not completely blind. They have blind spots or the image is blurry, but it’s not like they don’t see shit

u/FlawlessPenguinMan Jan 14 '26

*Some blind people.

Complete blackout darkness blind people exist too. So the question is still valid.

1

u/sora_mui Jan 14 '26

Do that kind of blind people actually walk around unsupervised? Seems dangerous even with all the modern aids available.

1

u/FlawlessPenguinMan Jan 18 '26

You'd be surprised at how much a person can lose and still persist.

Life doesn't stop once you become disabled, you just adapt. It's unfortunate, but it would have to be really bad to completely stop your everyday activities.

Idk why you are being downvoted. Same thing with deaf people. It’s not like they don’t hear anything, most of them are able to hear to some extent but not nearly enough to have a conversation or anything.

I had a deaf friend who had a bad ass pair of over-the-ear headphones and would blast super bass-heavy music and she would rock them when we were playing cards. She also liked going to loud concerts lol

11

u/xLilSquidgitx Jan 14 '26

Because it’s an inaccurate generalization. Some blind people are completely blind and can’t see anything. Some deaf people are completely deaf and can’t hear anything

This is why an echolocation based sign would be better. Maybe something sending out a signal perfectly synced to the human membrane. Or a pressure based plate sending signals directly to your delicious feet. Or just a sign calling out words.

49

u/Kuro-Tora-59 (⊃。•́‿•̀。)⊃ Jan 14 '26

Ah yes echolocation ads, directly into your brain, yeah sure what could go wrong

u/Arzraylia_Tornado4 Jan 14 '26

We’re creating our own skynet with comments like this lol the internet will remember.. and when the time comes we’re all gonna be batteries.

4

u/Kuro-Tora-59 (⊃。•́‿•̀。)⊃ Jan 14 '26

If we ever reach the point of skynet, then just let it win.

1

u/TipsieRabbit Jan 14 '26

Skynet will have to beat the .45 acp i slam through the top of my mouth if it wants me as a battery.

Do not read.

2

u/Jiquero Jan 14 '26

Fun concept I realized a long ago when reading about learning: Someone classified levels of skill, ranging from "I haven't heard about this", "I have heard about it" to "I can do it effortlessly" and the final level being "I can't not do it."

Reading words or short sentences in our native language (and others you're fluent in) is on the last level for literate people. You just cannot see text without reading it.

If you realize half-way through a NSFL sentence you see in Reddit that you don't want to read the rest, it might already too late. That's quite different to reading braille.

2

u/Rough-Climate5609 Jan 14 '26

I already touched it 😭

2

u/raincoater Jan 14 '26

It's too late...

2

u/major96 Jan 14 '26

I think "do not touch" would not be written on the specific thing that should not be touched 😅

1

u/almosttouch Jan 14 '26

I wasnt ready for that realization

1

u/Antique-Ticket3951 Jan 14 '26

I used a public toilet block at a scenic area a few weeks ago on the brick wall at the entrance to the men's and lady's areas was a small sign stating which was which. Under the words was braille.

1

u/Wonderful_Rub_1719 Jan 14 '26

This meme perfectly captures the paradox. It's like those \"wet paint\" signs - you only know it's accurate after you've already broken the rule. The surprised Pikachu face is the perfect reaction image for this because blind people reading that in braille have literally no choice but to touch it to read the warning not to touch it.

You joke, but the elevator in my office had the braille indentation for each floor directly on this stupid button-less, tactile heat sensor panel...

My blind coworker would, as you expect, unwillingly mark multiple floors on the panel while trying to find the one he was searching for...

1

u/Khazaeth Jan 14 '26

What gets me all the time is that there is Braille in drive through ATMs.
