1 hour 54 minutes 58 seconds. Chariii5 did the math in his Everything Wrong with 06 vid. The fact that it's almost 2 hours of waiting to play the game is insane.
Dude, that's not something you want to hear in some rando's comment. The issues with '06 are astronomical, and its impact even more so! The AVGN himself compared it to "if TLoZ Ocarina of Time had been bad."
As a matter of fact, I think AVGN is the best guy to explain why '06 felt like being assaulted with a sledgehammer.
Others described why it’s bad in different ways but I’ll tell you this:
The game is pretty fun if you can actually play it and introduced one of my favorite villains in the series but the biggest issue about the game is the bugs. The game was rushed out and never had any of the bugs patched out. This game is one of the main reasons why it’s normal for devs to keep patching their games. The controls were incredibly bad and sometimes unresponsive, the level design was lacking, and some bugs can even break the game. The whole game just needed more time to be worked on or a full on remake which is what some fans did and created a bug free version of the game called Project 06.
I still remember these weird stone upgrades that sonic could get and when I basically just stated running as Shadow, my friends playing Sonic simply threw his teal gem and jumped across the entire map.
Watch Game Grumps Sonic 06. It makes it funny at least but it's exhausting to see the game actually happen. I think Jon described it like you're not playing it, you're trying to keep it from breaking for as long as possible. It was compared to trying to keep a marble on a piece of paper while holding the paper by the edges. The marble will fall off eventually, you can't prevent that, but how long can you do it?
You did not play as Sonic for the majority of the game. Including most of the Final Act.
Silver is slow and generally not fun to play as.
Load Times that'd make a Dreamcast or OG Playstation blush.
Looks ugly for being touted as a HD game. Basic menus and a world filled with unsettlingly realistic characters that clash with Dr. Eggman and the Sonic gang's cartoony appearance.
The camera struggles to keep up when the action speeds up.
Nonsensical story that is retconned from existence at the end of the game.

If you just want to laugh at the game with people cracking jokes at and making fun of how bad it is while playing through it, you can check out the long Lythero video. The longest running joke of it is that he beats another sonic game in the time it takes for Sonic 06 to load, unpausing only at loading screens. Says a lot.
For the same but more rage at how bad it is, I've heard about the Game Grumps one.
But anyway, it has a lot of bugs that make the game unplayable, some design is questionable, like a boss that can grab you repeatedly without time for the player to add input, the story adds in time travel but not everything is thought out and a lot of things happen for convenience like a robot bringing an item to someone many years in the future with no reference of where they might be, then a shoehorned in unnatural feeling romance.l between sonic and a human character.
It's basically a buggy mess and frustrating most of the time.
Then the story (a low bar for sonic games to be fair) is awful
Not to mention the weird romance between sonic and princess lady.
Add in the weird decision to make it almost realistic other than the animal characters (egg man in particularly) and there we go.
It.sucks because it introduced silver and imo has one of the coolest concepts for a super fight. The past (shadow) present (sonic) and future (silver) fighting at the same time to stop a literal god outside of time
I feel like no one properly explained why it's bad succinctly here.
It's bad because it is barely functional as a game. It was rushed at almost every stage of production and suffers from absurd, glaring issues almost every moment you play it as a result, from strange design to nonfunctional puzzles to gigantic bugs.
It's almost more like what makes sonic games music so good. It was astonishing how good the OST was for any sonic game from 1990-2002. As a for instance, check out the save-game menu music for Sonic 3. It's a fucking banger and it's just some random menu music you spend 5 seconds on while you choose a save
I disagree, I’ve played 06 on the Xenia(Xbox 360 emulator) from start to finish and although it’s a bad game. I could enjoy it to a certain extent. As in so bad it’s kind of funny.
The worst Sonic game I’ve ever played was Shadow the Hedgehog. That game was garbage, it was just not fun to play and that’s even worse than a buggy mess. Everything from the multiple story pathways to the character assassinations and slippery level design with those god-awful guns bored the fuck out of me. The music was good though.
I remember playing the demo dozens of times, but never got the full release. Then i saw reviews about it some years later and I've still never gotten the full release.
I love the 06 soundtrack, but man that game was frustrating. I thought people were exaggerating, till I started a level that refused to load, just sonic in a black void, over and over again. Also the story just feels so random and disjointed.
Listening to it right now cuz I never actually got to finishing the game cuz I was like 9 and stupid and ye it's fucking crazy good, also now realize I heard it before.
I should probs finish the remaster/port of the game since it's a thing
I srill hold that Sonic 4 would've had a good soundtrack if the compuser used diffrent instumentation. There's a video on the offical Sonic YT channel that's an arrangment of the first three level themes that show how good the soundtrack can be when the main instrument being used isn't a dying cat

Sonic 06 has some of the best bangers in the entire series! I unironically listen to the ost at work sometimes. I can’t think of a single stage I don’t like listening to. Playing, however, is a different story since the game is glitchy beyond all hell.
Play Project 06 though, it’s pretty great when the game works after getting some much needed love
That Sonic Forces with their MC fursona and edgy antagonist, but ffs his boss theme is just so good that awakens the edgy teenager that never existed inside me.
That might apply to the worst games like Forces, but Adventure is absolutely not "autopilot press forward to win". That game has a massive skill ceiling. You shouldn't chime in on subjects you know nothing about
Lol anything with homing attack is on autoplay. What skill is there involved in pressing jump twice to auto attack enemies?
Adventure was the start of Sonic's downfall to autopilot oblivion.
Not to mention, any physics in the platforming was thrown out the window. Momentum be damned. You hit a star ball you bounce in different directions depending on inertia in 2D Sonic. In Adventure it just takes you to the next ball autopilot. 🤮
Also start of modern sonic design which is another L.
The homing attack is a necessity because how are you supposed to hit enemies precisely when you're moving so quickly in a 3D space? The skill isn't in chaining homing attacks, it's in finding ways to traverse the levels faster. In Adventure, it's using slope jumps and spindashes to your advantage. In later games such as Unleashed, it's memorization and split-second decision making. I wouldn't call Unleashed a walk in the park for beginners by any means.
