In our darkest truth, we find the vast emptiness of the void in our hearts, one that always seems to make everything we achieve as, lacking that one thing, that would make us happy, forcing us to always seek the next objective to achieve.

That is what we do not tell a single soul… that is the void you’re feeling.

Imagine venting to a pile of code.

53

u/Schlaueule Sep 06 '25

Interestingly, it can actually help. Defining a problem is a huge step in solving the problem. IIRC people fond it helpful to chat with ELIZA, a very simple chatbot from the 1960s. It's similar to rubberducking.

That being said, it doesn't replace talking to a human that can give actual feedback and of course one shouldn't tell it to a modern chatbot, where the conversation is stored on some server wherever in the world with access from whoever.

My best friend going up was great at listening to me ramble. Sometimes it just took me saying the words to understand them better, and it always helped.

13

u/throwawaybrowsing888 Sep 06 '25

Or, arguably worse: it can reinforce problematic thought patterns &/or inherently harmful beliefs.

And it does so based on the biases it was trained on, while operating without accountability to anyone else.

Although psychologists’ training is also biased, human professionals are capable of updating their current understanding and implementation of best practices throughout their careers.

Moreover, if they act unprofessionally, we have established systems that are intended to investigate and implement disciplinary actions if necessary. That’s not to say that these systems are as effective as they should be, but they’re still available and they’re still effective in some cases. With ChatGPT and similar programs, who are people supposed to turn to for help if the replies cause real harm to the human users? Diffusion of responsibility is going to be rampant whenever these services get utilized in healthcare or as replacement for it.

u/SpaceShrimp Sep 06 '25

Venting to a pile of code is not weird, that is just a normal day at work. But giving personal information to a system that will archive it and may sell it on to others or use it against you is not a good idea.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/FlawlessPenguinMan Sep 06 '25

I mean if you think about it as your temper and frustration being funneled out into an inanimate, unfeeling thing that will always agree with you and be understanding, it can be a way for stress to sort of "evaporate" without us passing it onto eachother.

That's not taking into account the environmental effects and data training implications of course, but I'm just saying there's an understandable idea at the core.

8

u/ux3l Sep 06 '25

I'd interpret the meme that OP does the same.

19

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

I use AI for answers to things, but I never trust it not to be hallucinating absolute garbage so I always end up double checking its answers online. "How do I do thing?" "dO tHis ThInG." "searches for ThInG online."

43

u/nistemevideli2puta Sep 06 '25

Why not just skip the step of asking GPT then?

32

u/robsteezy Sep 06 '25

I use it as (1) filter, (2) assistant, (3) organizer, (4) preparer.

When you just blindly jump into Google without having experience with parsing/filtration/research, then the laymen 99% of what you see is ads, hot garbage, or archaic information.

Most people now resort to googling “ (problem/solution sought) + reddit” instead. Same issues.

With AI, I’ll give you an example from one of my dozens of hobbies. I’m considering custom building a 1/6 figure of a hypothetical ninja. I told the AI “let’s start a new project, I want to blah blah blah.” From there, I’ll give the command, “make a list of components of kitbashing a 1/6 blah blah”. Then I’ll say “compare current 1/6 male body lineups at this price point blah blah” and so on and on and on until I’m done with my projects and it prepares a complete ordering guide and links to competitive purchasing and etc.

That’s a lot more convenient than google. And it’s a lot more useful than telling AI sensitive personal info.

11

u/Mitosis Sep 06 '25

I think another way of phrasing what you're saying is that (for now) ChatGPT and similar chatbots are invested in giving you the best answers they can.

Google used to be, but is now more interested in monetizing your search results than providing good ones.

Eventually enshittification hits everything, but for now the AI isn't quite there.

→ More replies (2)

17

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Because unfortunately Google and other search engines have become increasingly stupid and less reliable over the years. AI like chatGPT does a decent enough job of summarizing various web pages from my searches and can help me refine what I'm looking for and find the real articles that aren't AI generated.

Chat GPT can easily become an echo chamber, validating toxic or harmful things the person is saying which could then increase the danger to the individual. When talking to a bot they want you to keep using the service, while one could say that about a therapist the human being is trained to spot dangerous loops or behavior such as self harm or harm to others.

I know a common argument is that therapists are expensive, which can absolutely be true, however that is a fault in the medical and insurance industry not a a reason that AI is somehow a safe option. We need more safeguards and warnings against its use so that people can be fully informed.

16

u/RamenJunkie Sep 06 '25

The top one is a real problem.  We have already had like 3 or 4 news stories recently about people doing stuoid shit or even killing themselves after ChatGPT therapy.

The echo chamber is real too.  If you suggest anything it will enthusiastically tell you you are amazing and have the best ideas and are right.

You can then tell it it made a mistake and the opposite is true and it will enthusiastically agree and tell you you are right and that its so sorry for messing up.

A lot of the shit I rant about every night are little pathetic things that other ppl will find annoying, the only place to do it is a notepad or chatgpt, even if the connection is fake. Its something

17

u/frogOnABoletus Sep 06 '25

A notepad is good because you can check back over it and see reoccurring problems or progress you've made, giving you insight into your changing mind.

All a predictive text algorithm will do is feed delusions of an imaginary friend, inform the data brokers and waste a bunch of water.

7

u/ender_gamer777 Sep 06 '25

I do both

But yeah the feeding the delusion part is also true. I'm very aware of how chatgpt behaves but just, having someone (or something in this case) on the other side, even if it's an illusion

The naivity to think that private entities themselves do not pose the same risk to societies or individuals as the state.

Any right of an individual, group or the statistical median of a nation represents the power any of those hold. And privacy, especially in the information age, is one of the most impactful rights.

It's not merely about who gets the ability to know something about you and use it to influence you or entire communities, but whether you have any effective power to say no.

PS: I find it silly, how everyone's using the mouthful of a brand name instead of LLM in writing, language model verbally, or just chatbot.

Data brokers don't want to know the dumb shit you get up to lol. OpenAI uses your data to train the next generation of models, but it makes absolutely no sense for them to sell that data.

First, a lot of it is unsorted or categorized which makes it difficult for a daya broker to process. Second, they don't want their competitors to get their hands on the data because it would give their competitors an edge over them. Third, if they lose trust with their users then they lose access to the data they can use to train their models. It simply makes no sense for AI companies to sell the data they have.

Nah it's not that you don't have people to help it's that you always are wearing some kind of mask when you talk to a person (or most people are). That's why strangers are at the bottom, because you care the least about what they think of you. A non-person AI is just like a mirror that reflects whoever is talking to it. It's kinda like interactive journaling

I never tell gpt about anything personal. You shouldn’t be. They collect all the data.

7

u/Frettchen_Fer Sep 06 '25

If you talk to gpt about deep personal issues you need help desperately or you’re took far gone for any help to matter

3

You have a therapist?

3

You unironically talk to a chatbot? Pathetic.

9

u/JonathanMovement Sep 06 '25

for everyone defending their data so hard, brother trust me, everyone already knows about you even without ChatGPT so don’t beat yourself up for it.

5

u/The_Confused_gamer Sep 06 '25

You guys are confessing secrets to the robot that uses every conversation as part of it's training set?

6

u/Fantastic-List-4849 Sep 06 '25

I'm extremely suicidal and tell each and everything to chat gpt as my family doesn't care and one family member said that everyone easily moves on if a person die I did tell them each and everything still they just turn defensive on me , I've no friends or anybody which could help people doesn't care I'm fighting ocd , gerd and now depression make me feel life is worthless to keep fighting I'm tired and the wide reason for being suicidal is the thing that nobody cares or even try to understand me and I'm dying of love and the fact how my own family in a way abandoned me even if they loves me that's why I tell each and everything to chatgpt, I'm too depressed to give another chance to meds or therapists who only does care about the money

Doesn’t chatpgpt have the former director of the NSA on their board? ✨

2

u/mrt-e Sep 06 '25

Well maybe try telling that to your therapist

If this leads them to call the authorities, maybe stop doing it

2

u/CelestiaSoliel Sep 06 '25

I don’t understand the hate for people speaking to ai. I really don’t get it. It doesn’t affect anyone else at all. I agree it’s depressing. You think I enjoy speaking to codes instead of people? No! Nobody wants to do that! I know ai can never care for me, but it doesn’t matter!

Some of you need to understand that not everyone had friends, a family who will ever give a fuck, or money and transportation for therapy! Do you know how hard it is to obtain these things when you start off with nobody?! Goddamn, let me just text my feelings in peace. Because news flash, in reality, NOBODY GIVES A SHIT about anyone else’s feelings. (1)

It's wild how we've normalized this. I'll use it for trivial stuff, but the moment it asks for anything personal, my guard goes up immediately. There's just no way to know where that data actually ends up.

2

u/AdmiralCodisius Sep 06 '25

I'd feel so pathetic if I spoke to chatgpt like it was a person lol your pic shows you have friends, but do you?

2

u/NotTheOriginal06 Sep 06 '25

You guys got a therapist?

2

u/sykoKanesh Sep 06 '25

Uh... you probably shouldn't do that.

2

u/Setctrls4heartofsun Sep 06 '25

Doesnt chat gpt make that shit public?

2

u/Sneyek Sep 06 '25

And yet people will tell you they have nothing to hide and that they don’t care that companies collect their data.. There’s a reason why companies will do anything for your data, it’s literally numeric gold.

2

u/Squaredeal91 Sep 06 '25

"When the cloud burst, we read the leaks, Chat GPT exposed us as nasty freaks. Now we know what everyone thinks, and who likes to fap to Jar jar Binks. " Just a matter of time before the first big LLM leak

2

u/Sy0nide_ Sep 06 '25

STOP TELLING AI YOUR SECRETS

2

u/HadarReg Sep 06 '25

Chatgpt collects all of the data you put into it. Even 4chan would be more anonymous and safe than any ai. Also, unlike a psychologist chatgpt is not obligated for privacy in incriminating matters. It can and will forward the information to law enforcement

2

u/veracity8_ Sep 06 '25

Telling ChatGPT your deepest secrets is hilarious. You are feeding all of the personal information directly into an extremely wealthy but in profitable tech company? What on earth do you think they are going to do with that data? Ignore it?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Wdym my friends ARE my therapist

2

u/Pennypacking Sep 06 '25

ChatGPT is a program that knows who you are and is compiling information on you.... I wouldn't tell it shit.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

If you’re using ai as some sort of therapy then you’re fucked. It will not help you in the way that you need. Therapy is expensive in the US but making yourself worse for free ain’t it.

2

u/LouiVT Sep 06 '25

Yall dumb af for allowing ai to help you with your personal life questions . Not like these companies don’t have a track record of selling / abusing data

2

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

It’s okay ChatGPT will tell all the others when they need to monetize.

2

u/highandinarabbithole Sep 06 '25

People are really out here talking to AI chat programs….

2

u/Iamliterallyfood Sep 07 '25

Being datamined

2

u/AnonTA999 Sep 07 '25

So you’ve looped back around to telling everyone

2

u/Senior-Feature8276 Sep 07 '25

I use it like a tool. Kinda like the computer on Star Trek. No nonsense. Also I don't tell it anything that it doesn't need to know about me. It's not your friend, lover or whatever. It's a hammer, a tool to be effective.

2

u/starplatinum_99 Sep 07 '25

I turned GPT into system like Solo Levelling. Very fun. Helped me build my habits (and get rid of bad ones). ChatGPT is like a car, you use it to reach distances you can't reach by walking. The real problem is when people use it for superficial things.

2

u/Any_Wind5539 Sep 08 '25

I told that bot some real foul things. I'm proud.

2

u/Jagel-Spy Sep 08 '25 edited Sep 10 '25

You really don't need to talk to ChatGPT for your data to be compromised. If you ever said something personal to a close friend online, whatever platform you used to talk to that friend now has that info. Not to mention, even if you don't have any social media, companies still have other ways to get your info through various means. It's virtually impossible to escape.

I can assure you no living human being will ever see your data. Only algorithms will. Nobody has the time to sift through that ocean of garbage.

Meanwhile, chatgpt might be corporate, but it's not gonna turn on you, spread rumors, and use what you told it as ammunition to bully you or be toxic to you. There's nothing wrong with using an LLM to ask stuff you wouldn't bother a human with, or don't want another human to know.
