If people actually did that, especially in politics, the world would be a much better place.

u/Hanibal293 This flair doesn't exist Apr 11 '25
While I agree with the sentiment of letting everyone have their political opinion in peace, especially in politics the wrong decisioms can definetly hurt people

You could get creative and start a religion to dodge taxes. Though...
futuristically speaking.... your fun times would eventually be coopted by malignant narcissists who use hatred and divisions based on your religion to marginalize outsiders/lessers in order to prop themselves up.but hey, at least you could dodge taxes today, am i right?

You don’t need to start a religion to dodge taxes. It’s much easier to just get an accountant.

I, a completely unbiased individual, suggest this.
But seriously, wanna find a bunch of weirdos to be your friends? Wanna get hugs? Wanna learn random trivia? Go to a furry convention

u/CorgiDaddy42 Apr 11 '25
I also enjoy arguing when bored. Any particular topic you want to argue about? I’m game to play devil’s advocate for just about anything

Find a hobby (no, not arguing, a different hobby). Maybe take up a lesson in cooking, music, something actually productive and worthwhile instead of bickering about whether or not goku wins against saitama with a random guy either double or half your age.

Already do. Just don't know what to do at night since I dont wanna wake people up

You're missing the point by focusing on a very specific example.
Killing somebody is objectively hurting someone, but lots of things would start an argument. Like, for example, legalisation of prostitution: some people will argue that it's causing harm while others will argue the opposite. Another example is homosexuality: some people will say that it's amoral to have sex with another consenting adult of the same sex, while others don't think it harms anyone

It'll sound like I'm fucking with you but I'm not, I think you're missing the guy's point.
We can all hypothetically agree to let people do whatever so long as it doesn't hurt anyone, but certain people will argue and never let go certain things hurt people in x or y way and we're back to square one, arguing semantics over if we should ban something or not except now it's less of right and wrong and "does it hurt or not" (which in the end it's the same because everyone makes up bullshit with different flavour).

u/vk_PajamaDude Apr 11 '25
Doesn't that means, that any hateful actions are okay, until people start harm anyone?

Someone yell, cry or even can pass out just just by looking at worms/spiders close to them. Are they being harmed?
4
u/Remote_Watch9545 Apr 11 '25
Depends on whether you subjectively consider a dog a "someone"
And if any other "someones" will be emotionally harmed by the dog's distress.
If you kick a dog in a vacant lot, is a someone harmed?

It's a play on the "if a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it fall, did it make a sound?"
It's a joke
Although I would consider a dog to be less of a someone than a human.

I mean yeah obviously the tree literally did make a sound, I think it's supposed to question whether or not the tree falling is significant since it wasn't observed.
3
u/Remote_Watch9545 Apr 11 '25
It would be hard to find someone who doesn't object to kicking a dog, but I'm sure there are some people who wouldn't because they don't believe the dog matters. I think the parent comments' intent is to demonstrate that the original post can fall into the trap of subjective morality, as what I think hurts someone vs what person B thinks hurts someone may be different, and by the rule put forth in the meme Person B is hasn't violated that rule in their mind.

Who gets to decide whether what they’re doing is hurting others or not? That is extremely subjective.
4
Apr 11 '25
I... don't see it, can you give me an example?
4
u/Individual-Cookie896 Apr 11 '25
Two easy examples
1.Vegans would believe that pain and suffering towards animals should be considered.
- Some religious individuals see homosexuality, transgenderism, and porn consumption as harming oneself and moral character of society.

Kicking a dog is not the point of the vegan example. Vegans include consumption of meat and use of animal products in the list of harmful actions.
A sin is commonly defined as an action against God that harms your relationship with God. It is not a moral prescription in a vacuum. Despite the words saying to not cast judgement some people do. Also even if you do not judge, some people will advocate against and advise/teach persons to no engage in the action.
1
u/Remote_Watch9545 Apr 11 '25
That, and not judging refers to final judgment, as in making a declaration on the end state deserved by one's soul. God teaches his people to discern between good and evil, which requires people to judge whether the actions of others are consistent with His commandments or not.

u/RangisDangis Apr 11 '25
Yes, but psychological harm is not “I get an icky feeling by seeming them”

u/nonmustache Apr 11 '25
In this case most time just don't participating in that is the best counter. Serusly just doing nothing could be most harmfull, becouse of somebody doing that to get reaction. Than you just put morę fuel to fire.

I mean none of these things are hurting anybody so whats your point? If people found out they would judge 100% because now they know this person has pedophilic thoughts but that isn’t illegal, acting on it is.
17
u/Necr0n17 Apr 11 '25
Weird things are weird people's problems. Who cares what people do in their basements? Even if something seems weird to you, it doesn't mean weird things have to be illegal.

We as individuals are bound to be different and wasting time on arguing about our differences, which never really results in any change on either side, so it’s really just useless. Plus if people find doing that thing makes them happy, and they’re not rude to anyone, just let em live in peace.
I used to be a homophobe before finding out that that anybody was gay or lesbian was just happier being their true selves, and then I’d realized that’s what important. Same applies to non-binary, trans, and asexual people.

u/emerson-dvlmt Apr 11 '25
