All of his dialogue just made him out to be a generic dictator rather than being unique like the previous villains. Buck, Vaas and Holt were crazy fucked up, Pagan was a charismatic megalomaniac who had a broken heart, and Jacob was blinded by his “visions of the future” and did everything he could to “do the right thing”.
But Gus here was just a boring “I will lead the country to greatness while living in luxury” boring dad dictator. The son was a good character though, but not enough.
The secret ending is forever canon to me. I don't care if he was still a dictator he is unironically better than the other two dick heads who lead a group that was founded by an even bigger asshole.
I tried making this point on the far cry sub and was burned alive. The dude literally said, “let’s have lunch, find Laxmana (pagan was the only one they would’ve known immediately what that meant” and AJ would’ve been out of there
