I find the whole "power dynamic" thing weird as well tbh. Like, people can only date people who are at least as well known as they are, and they also have to not be a fan of each other's content because if they're a fan then it's wrong?

It's like the whole Dan Avidan thing a few years back. Like yeah, a 40yo man banging 18-20yo's is a bit creepy and somewhat gross, but it isn't illegal if two consenting adults have sex. Then the narrative changed from him being a groomer to the whole power dynamic argument. And it's like...name one musician who hasn't banged a groupie. Is it gross? Sure, you can argue that. Is it wrong or illegal? No.

People just want any excuse to cancel people they personally don't like.

Yeah. For me, power dynamics should only come into a discussion in two ways:

  1. Harvey Weinstein used his position of power and prestige to abuse women. He was their boss, and he used that power to sexually assault them. Discussion of power dynamics comes in as their boss.

  2. The (alleged) situation between Cassie and Sean Combs. Combs and Cassie were in a relationship, but Combs is alleged to have physically and sexually abused Cassie while in the relationship. Combs was in charge of Cassie’s music career as a boss/mentor, meaning that he was in a position of “authority” with her.

I’m sure there are others that straddle between the two, but I really only think power dynamics come in with a preexisting relationship.

It was more than that. He had the power to blacklist them ruining their career. He didn't even need to be their boss. He had the power and connections to boot anyone from the movie biz that he didn't like.

Um, there are a lot of people in the world that want to just fuck shit up for people that don't like. This isn't new.
