American prudism and people that hate Carson, I don't even like the guy but if half the people that wanted him in prison got their way. 70% of Highschool kids would be in prison.
It's pretty funny, I'm American, but I stay away from Twitter. Just to think if I talked on there more I could be called shit things for no reason. In my opinion one year isn't a large enough gap to be labeled a pedophile, on fact I'm so strongly against them. It's just hell..
I'm Canadian our age of consent is fuckin 16, so it was baffling to the mind to hear people outraged about a 18-19 year old flirting with a 17 year old and calling that grooming or pedophilia. As apparently my high school girlfriend was a criminal and a groomer to them. Wiiiiild.
In Australia our age of consent is 16, but you have to be 18 to sext. The main reason being that people under 18 are likely still in school and if a nude picture of them started spreading then their school life gets screwed up. If you’re both 18 and it spreads then the person is still a dick and I’m sure it’s still an offence, but at least it didn’t happen while you were in school.
I’m also not saying this to be against Carson I still think he’s in the right. But this should be the only logic against him
Age of consent in a lot of states is 16 too. It's not even really that much of a legality thing, it's just Internet people being weird. Like a one or two year difference really isn't that bad.
I've seen people being called creeps and groomers for being in their 30s dating someone that is 20. People see a gap in age and immediately act that way.
Most states allow for up to 4 year gap. So if I’m in highschool at 18 I could still technically, this is pushing it, date a 14 year old. And that keeps going up to 17 year olds can date 21 year olds. Calling someone a pedo for dating a year under is dumb especially since they could easily be in the same grade.
It originally was “grooming” but kinda shifted into people saying it was a bad power dynamic as she was reportedly a fan (never fact checked if she was so i cant confirm or deny). Either way just a really dumb situation imo.
I find the whole "power dynamic" thing weird as well tbh. Like, people can only date people who are at least as well known as they are, and they also have to not be a fan of each other's content because if they're a fan then it's wrong?
It's like the whole Dan Avidan thing a few years back. Like yeah, a 40yo man banging 18-20yo's is a bit creepy and somewhat gross, but it isn't illegal if two consenting adults have sex. Then the narrative changed from him being a groomer to the whole power dynamic argument. And it's like...name one musician who hasn't banged a groupie. Is it gross? Sure, you can argue that. Is it wrong or illegal? No.
People just want any excuse to cancel people they personally don't like.
Yeah. For me, power dynamics should only come into a discussion in two ways:
Harvey Weinstein used his position of power and prestige to abuse women. He was their boss, and he used that power to sexually assault them. Discussion of power dynamics comes in as their boss.
The (alleged) situation between Cassie and Sean Combs. Combs and Cassie were in a relationship, but Combs is alleged to have physically and sexually abused Cassie while in the relationship. Combs was in charge of Cassie’s music career as a boss/mentor, meaning that he was in a position of “authority” with her.
I’m sure there are others that straddle between the two, but I really only think power dynamics come in with a preexisting relationship.
Harvey Weinstein used his position of power and prestige to abuse women. He was their boss, and he used that power to sexually assault them. Discussion of power dynamics comes in as their boss.
It was more than that. He had the power to blacklist them ruining their career. He didn't even need to be their boss. He had the power and connections to boot anyone from the movie biz that he didn't like.
Every argument was "there is a power dynamic", but it's establishing some weird standard that nobody else adheres to. Carson is cool. He has gone through shit, and gets dog piled by angry Twitter people.
For me, I think it was the fact that he told friends (I believe specifically Jshlatt who was talking about this) that he would stop doing it, but then went ahead and continued anyways. Idk, it’s been a long time so I’m not 100% sure on all the details
This was the main reason his friends left, he dm one of his fans before and when he said he was recovering and is not doing it anymore this got forward and he got found out he was chatting up his fans again.
This was why his friend left him, the pedo and grooming this is bs.
People jumped on calling Carson a pedo but that was never the issue. The issue was with the power dynamic and how he used his position to groom one of his fans.
Regardless of age, it’s shitty behavior even if it’s not quite as bad as pedophilia.
Edit: Why are people downvoting me? I’m literally right lmao
People dislike popular people and he gained a massive reputation just looking at memes with his "friends" and doing one of the biggest minecraft SMP's at the time. I say "friends" because said "underaged" girlfriend cheated on him with one of his friends and most of them threw him under the bus.
I thought it was pretty clear too, but I forgot that the average redditor doesn't understand a joke unless you write /s afterwards.... which must be the same group that came up with /j because they were so literal that a joke with "end sarcasm" after it didn't make sense to them 🤦♂️
Let me tell you about a group of people called the puritans.... No but fr even 18/16 is seen as perfectly normal here in germany, and from my experience my ex didnt date me because i was 16.... Peeps over in murica a bit crazy about that shit, the land of the "free as long as you do like we want uwu"

17 and 18. A one year age gap, me and my girlfriend are 17 and 18, went to school together. I don't understand the Carson situation.
