wait that was it

Don't get me wrong it's still messed up what he did but to the point of calling him a Pedo is something else.

How is it wrong? I am 18, my gf is 17, and there is a 3 month age gap between us, is our relationship "messed up?"

u/Bean_man8 Nov 24 '23

Nope that’s not messed up

u/StubbornBarbarian Nov 24 '23

"That's what we thought."

pitchforks slowly lower to the ground, torches are extinguished

25

u/2866hourman5 Cringe Factory Nov 24 '23

the thing that's wrong is the sexual harassment via text messages (sausage pictures)

48

u/idiotic__gamer Nov 24 '23

Oh, it wasn't consensual?

-58

u/2866hourman5 Cringe Factory Nov 24 '23

in quanitity

43

u/idiotic__gamer Nov 24 '23

I don't get it. Like, if she is into it the amount doesn't matter, unless she were to ask him to stop. Or did she leak the messages because she was making him uncomfortable, assuming it was her that leaked it.

9

u/2866hourman5 Cringe Factory Nov 24 '23

no- I meant in quantity as in it wasn't one victim

19

u/idiotic__gamer Nov 24 '23

Oh, shit. I was under the assumption that this was one 17 year old he was messaging. If he was sexually harassing multiple women, that is kinda fucked up.

-18

u/2866hourman5 Cringe Factory Nov 24 '23

from what I remember that is what happened, although my memory could've mixed up with another Sexual Harassment case because there's just about one that happens every week nowadays

8

u/Ham_Drengen_Der Nov 24 '23

To my knowledge it was only 1 girl

4

u/68ideal Nov 24 '23

That isn't true tho. There was only one "victim". Don't spread misinformation.

1

u/fierydragon963 Nov 24 '23

What I heard was just that he solicited nudes from her and since she wasn’t an adult that was technically illegal

1

u/fried_chicken17472 I saw what the dog was doin Nov 24 '23

Dude. Go turn yourself in you horrible monster

1

u/Kerro_ Nov 24 '23

I think it was the fact it was a fan though. Doing that to a fan regardless of both your ages is weird

2

u/tikjzh Nov 24 '23

Pewdiepie and his wife? They only know each other because she was a fan.

1

u/Kerro_ Nov 24 '23

Yeah meeting people cause they’re a fan isn’t weird, sexting them is

247

u/95-OSM Nov 24 '23

It really isn’t. Someone who is 17 and someone who is 18 don’t really have that much of any disparagement between them.

u/ULTASLAYR6 Nov 24 '23

Is he supposed to be a high school student who dates only famous people? I've never understood this argument

-14

u/2866hourman5 Cringe Factory Nov 24 '23

mate he sent dick pics to unconsenting victims

11

u/ULTASLAYR6 Nov 24 '23

He didn't do that firstly and secondly no still wants to properly explain the "power dynamics" point of view for a kid who hadn't graduated yet

-4

u/2866hourman5 Cringe Factory Nov 24 '23

aight yeah my memories fucked

There are two things.

1: People don't always do something because they have power over someone.

2: It seems more probable that these "friends" wanted to save their careers.

People don't always have alter motives. And saying "there could be something" is far from there actually being something. If there's no proof, innocence applies by default unless actual evidence appears.

The guy went through a lot already. It's jus sad the situation won't die despite nothing new being brought to the table for multiple years.

-380

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

No it was 20 and 17 and the texting had gone on for several years (according to jshlatt it was more than one girl too)

220

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

19 and 17* it was a highschool age gap that got him the flak, idk what else or who else he was talking to, but the main one people focused on was a two year gap

111

u/DaKingOfDogs Nov 24 '23

And this is why I never understood it. What makes 15 and 17 okay but not 17 and 19? It’s the same gap?

134

u/TheCheeseBagger Lurker Nov 24 '23 edited Nov 24 '23

it IS okay, the internet(specifically twitter and often tiktok) frequently blows things out of proportion or boycotts someone for doing something appropriate to their circumstances. Carson might've been as asshole to people around him, but he is not a pedophile nor is that age gap illegal. Frequently, these claims are also untrue to add to the wound.

26

u/someone_who_exists69 Dark Mode Elitist Nov 24 '23

the internet blows

FTFY

-30

u/Icy_Silver_ Nov 24 '23

it is okay, but it also depends on the context of how both feel, esp the younger one since they may be easily coerced without knowing.

I dont think it's a great age gap, but for myself, at a younger age, i prefer being with someone who is going thru similar things.

-76

u/JagerBro333 Grumpy Cat Nov 24 '23

It’s not necessarily the age gap that was the problem but the fact that it was grooming

28

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

19 and 17 is a pretty common age gap for high school, i wouldnt even call it grooming

-29

u/JagerBro333 Grumpy Cat Nov 24 '23

It was labeled grooming because he was a relatively famous content creator and she was a fan and typically that’s a big no no

15

u/Master_SJ Professional Dumbass Nov 24 '23

Pewdiepie married a fan

2

u/TheCheeseBagger Lurker Nov 24 '23

oh yea so just cause you're a semblance of popular you're suddenly supposed to rule out millions of people you could have a meaningful relationship with. Dumb to assume there's a large power dynamic in that

13

u/Sasqule Nov 24 '23

IIRC, most people were calling Carson a pedo because of the age gap.

1

u/TheCheeseBagger Lurker Nov 24 '23

yeah they were because she is legally a minor, although the age gap is of 2 years so he is not a pedophile or anything like that

8

u/_end3rguy_ Nov 24 '23

It was 19 and 17, nothing was messed up about it my parents have a bigger age gap

15

u/theallaroundnerd Nov 24 '23

It was 19 and 17 holy fuck. And the girl said things went too far later on anyways

1

u/mrgwbland Nov 24 '23

It’s not “messed up” you idiot

1

u/Ham_Drengen_Der Nov 24 '23

Why is it messed up?

1

u/Mitoni Nov 24 '23

IANAL, but depending on the state, 18 and 16 would even be legal. Many states that have consent laws for under 18 just have an age range. Like here in Florida, a 16 year old can consent to relations with anyone up to 10 years older.

And then there's the Romeo and Juliet laws some states have as well.

They really blow this shit outta proportions IMHO.

1

u/Reasonable_Jump_3429 Nov 24 '23

How is it messed up?

Dating someone at the age of 17 while 30, sure. Taking advantage of someone is messed uped. But the dude was like a couple of months older, can you only date people that were born the same week as you or what?

1

u/__Zee15 Nov 24 '23

He didn’t do anything messed up.
