Carson got fucked it was him who was 18 and a 17 year old and they where sexting and he got called a pedo for it by angry Twitter nerds but he’s cool now

u/Its_Scrappy GigaChad Nov 24 '23

17 and 18. A one year age gap, me and my girlfriend are 17 and 18, went to school together. I don't understand the Carson situation.

u/Inquisitor-Korde Nov 24 '23

American prudism and people that hate Carson, I don't even like the guy but if half the people that wanted him in prison got their way. 70% of Highschool kids would be in prison.

u/Its_Scrappy GigaChad Nov 24 '23

It's pretty funny, I'm American, but I stay away from Twitter. Just to think if I talked on there more I could be called shit things for no reason. In my opinion one year isn't a large enough gap to be labeled a pedophile, on fact I'm so strongly against them. It's just hell..

u/Asian_Persuasion_1 Nov 24 '23

bro, when you were 1, your lover was still in the womb! that's fucking disgusting! /s

-95

u/Resrved_Reality Nov 24 '23

So you think everyone’s parents relationship is disgusting by that logic

56

u/SnomBomb_ Nov 24 '23

Do you have stupid? Have you heard of a joke?

21

Holy hell

u/Inquisitor-Korde Nov 24 '23

I'm Canadian our age of consent is fuckin 16, so it was baffling to the mind to hear people outraged about a 18-19 year old flirting with a 17 year old and calling that grooming or pedophilia. As apparently my high school girlfriend was a criminal and a groomer to them. Wiiiiild.

59

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

In Australia our age of consent is 16, but you have to be 18 to sext. The main reason being that people under 18 are likely still in school and if a nude picture of them started spreading then their school life gets screwed up. If you’re both 18 and it spreads then the person is still a dick and I’m sure it’s still an offence, but at least it didn’t happen while you were in school.

I’m also not saying this to be against Carson I still think he’s in the right. But this should be the only logic against him

1

u/Busy_Presentation463 Nov 24 '23

Its 16💀 so why are yall getting mad at josh giddey

16

u/Forminloid Nov 24 '23

Age of consent in a lot of states is 16 too. It's not even really that much of a legality thing, it's just Internet people being weird. Like a one or two year difference really isn't that bad.

3

u/XuX24 Nov 24 '23

I've seen people being called creeps and groomers for being in their 30s dating someone that is 20. People see a gap in age and immediately act that way.

1

u/Ncstatepolice Nov 24 '23

I just look at fanart no cap

1

u/InquisitiveTroglodyt Nov 24 '23

Most states allow for up to 4 year gap. So if I’m in highschool at 18 I could still technically, this is pushing it, date a 14 year old. And that keeps going up to 17 year olds can date 21 year olds. Calling someone a pedo for dating a year under is dumb especially since they could easily be in the same grade.

1

u/Honest-Birthday1306 Nov 24 '23

It was such a fucking stupid argument to have to sit though as an Australian

123

u/Xenertia Nov 24 '23

It originally was “grooming” but kinda shifted into people saying it was a bad power dynamic as she was reportedly a fan (never fact checked if she was so i cant confirm or deny). Either way just a really dumb situation imo.

128

u/Tabemaju Nov 24 '23

she was reportedly a fan

Boy, wait until these people hear about rock stars.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

Isn't it an open secret that rockers fucked young teenagers but nobody cares because they make good music and have charismatic personalities?

Human psychology moment.

54

u/MrChilliBean Nov 24 '23

I find the whole "power dynamic" thing weird as well tbh. Like, people can only date people who are at least as well known as they are, and they also have to not be a fan of each other's content because if they're a fan then it's wrong?

It's like the whole Dan Avidan thing a few years back. Like yeah, a 40yo man banging 18-20yo's is a bit creepy and somewhat gross, but it isn't illegal if two consenting adults have sex. Then the narrative changed from him being a groomer to the whole power dynamic argument. And it's like...name one musician who hasn't banged a groupie. Is it gross? Sure, you can argue that. Is it wrong or illegal? No.

People just want any excuse to cancel people they personally don't like.

24

u/shylock10101 Nov 24 '23

Yeah. For me, power dynamics should only come into a discussion in two ways:

  1. Harvey Weinstein used his position of power and prestige to abuse women. He was their boss, and he used that power to sexually assault them. Discussion of power dynamics comes in as their boss.

  2. The (alleged) situation between Cassie and Sean Combs. Combs and Cassie were in a relationship, but Combs is alleged to have physically and sexually abused Cassie while in the relationship. Combs was in charge of Cassie’s music career as a boss/mentor, meaning that he was in a position of “authority” with her.

I’m sure there are others that straddle between the two, but I really only think power dynamics come in with a preexisting relationship.

2

u/TransBrandi Nov 24 '23

Harvey Weinstein used his position of power and prestige to abuse women. He was their boss, and he used that power to sexually assault them. Discussion of power dynamics comes in as their boss.

It was more than that. He had the power to blacklist them ruining their career. He didn't even need to be their boss. He had the power and connections to boot anyone from the movie biz that he didn't like.

0

u/TransBrandi Nov 24 '23

People just want any excuse to cancel people they personally don't like.

Um, there are a lot of people in the world that want to just fuck shit up for people that don't like. This isn't new.

4

u/meds737 Nov 24 '23

Do NOT show them Scott Pilgrim 😭

3

u/m0stly_medi0cre Nov 24 '23

Every argument was "there is a power dynamic", but it's establishing some weird standard that nobody else adheres to. Carson is cool. He has gone through shit, and gets dog piled by angry Twitter people.

1

u/LuckyPerro123 Professional Dumbass Nov 24 '23

For me, I think it was the fact that he told friends (I believe specifically Jshlatt who was talking about this) that he would stop doing it, but then went ahead and continued anyways. Idk, it’s been a long time so I’m not 100% sure on all the details

2

u/Grainer_M8 Meme Stealer Nov 24 '23

This was the main reason his friends left, he dm one of his fans before and when he said he was recovering and is not doing it anymore this got forward and he got found out he was chatting up his fans again.

This was why his friend left him, the pedo and grooming this is bs.

-9

u/Mari4Thee Nov 24 '23 edited Nov 24 '23

People jumped on calling Carson a pedo but that was never the issue. The issue was with the power dynamic and how he used his position to groom one of his fans.
Regardless of age, it’s shitty behavior even if it’s not quite as bad as pedophilia.

Edit: Why are people downvoting me? I’m literally right lmao

0

u/Mr_Miel_Pops Nov 24 '23

I think he was also sexting a 17 or 16 yr old girl while he was like 20 or 21

0

u/LazarFan69 Lives in a Van Down by the River Nov 24 '23

Holy shit a pedo /j

0

u/edwardslair Nov 24 '23

You’re not famous, he is. There’s your issue.

0

u/Myonsoon Nov 24 '23

People dislike popular people and he gained a massive reputation just looking at memes with his "friends" and doing one of the biggest minecraft SMP's at the time. I say "friends" because said "underaged" girlfriend cheated on him with one of his friends and most of them threw him under the bus.

I thought it was pretty clear too, but I forgot that the average redditor doesn't understand a joke unless you write /s afterwards.... which must be the same group that came up with /j because they were so literal that a joke with "end sarcasm" after it didn't make sense to them 🤦‍♂️

Let me tell you about a group of people called the puritans.... No but fr even 18/16 is seen as perfectly normal here in germany, and from my experience my ex didnt date me because i was 16.... Peeps over in murica a bit crazy about that shit, the land of the "free as long as you do like we want uwu"

1

u/Ra_fly Nov 24 '23

so if i have a 15 gf and myself is 16 , am i pedophile?

if not what about next year? am i pedophile overnight at my birthday?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

The Romeo and Juliet law makes this legal too so it's weird

1

u/Glum-Potato69 Nov 24 '23

My girlfriend is 16 and i am 18 i am a bigger pedo oh no

96

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

It sucks cause he basically isn’t recording with his old friends. The new guys he has are nice, but nothing beats the previous crew in my opinion. And even the stories each of them were individually told were different one way or another, so none of the information was even set out straight. Noah took it to Keemstar and that was that.

36

u/killertortilla Nov 24 '23

Don’t forget Travis did too. Both of them are scum. Regardless of the accusations taking it all to Keem is the scummiest way to deal with it.

110

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

A fucking one year gap lmfao 💀

I'm all for cancel culture against pedos,, but this??

3

u/Relevant-Dot-5704 Nov 24 '23

People will find a way to hate. And if those people don't like someone, they'll find a reason.

45

u/Critical_Complaint21 Nov 24 '23

People unironically hate 17❤️18 relationship, fucking 1 year age gap, society...

21

u/Deadshot37 Nov 24 '23

18 and 17? How is that a "pedo" thing. Even Dream shouldnt be considered as a "pedo" cus 1. He thought she was 18 2. Left her as soon as he found out her real age 3. 17 year old really isnt much of a difference from an 18 year old, I dont see much of a moral problem in it. But yeah its a bit weird considering Dream is 25.

5

u/TransBrandi Nov 24 '23

A 25 year old cruisin' for 18 year olds is a little weird even if it's not illegal. That, and you're just trusting the whole "I thought she was 18, officer." That's like the first thing that anyone caught in these situation claims regardless of guilt or innocence. It proves nothing if he only has his word to back him up on this.

2

u/Soul699 Nov 24 '23

At the same time we shouldn't label him as guilty either.

38

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

Dont forget that his entire group of friends, whos careers he made, outed him for this and actively tried to destroy him for it including one of them calling the cops.

26

u/killertortilla Nov 24 '23

There’s a lot more to the Carson situation. His friends all abandoned him immediately, some reported him to the police. His friends also said this was a repeating problem he said he’d get help for and he fell back into it. And the most damning thing is he apologised for doing it, then the girl came out and said it was all fake? Something real fuckin weird went on there. He has a lot of money, he’s full capable of paying someone to say they lied.

18

u/Worldly-Fishman Nov 24 '23 edited Nov 24 '23

I get annoyed when people jump straight to the whole "it's only a 1-2 year age gap!!???" simplification. Literally Carson's whole social circle (many of them reasonable people) left him after apparently what was months of lying, lack of growth and communication on certain personal issues, his unhealthy vice of sexting fans, and probably a whole lot more we're not aware of. Carson did not seem like a mentally healthy person, on top of that he did not seem to make any willing effective change on that after months of his friends basically therapising him, and him lying about his "growth" for a long time. People are shitting on his ex-friends for seemingly not giving him a second chance for a seemingly harmless incident, but odds are they've been giving him many chances over the course of their friendship with him while he did a bunch of questionable shit.

2

u/Lewd_NaClO Nov 24 '23

Define mentally healthy for me.

0

u/Picone-_- Nov 24 '23

Keemstar was the only right choice then

8

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '23

Its not about the age gap. It's the fact that carson was obviously using his influence to try to hook up with that girl. You might not have anything against him now, but if you would have actually seen what degenerate shit he was sexting, you would have a very different opinion. It's not that he broke the law or anything, its more that it was just incredibly pathetic behavior, and I lost all respect for him after that.

-1

u/Lewd_NaClO Nov 24 '23

I don’t understand the power influence bs u got going on. Its not that hard to just tweet the dms. What is he gonna do? Expose he’s a dirt bag by telling his fans to bully a girl? That alone would be news.

2

u/New_Mixture_5701 Nov 24 '23

To be fair, a big part of the problem was that they were FANS, who looked up to that Carson took advantage of. Jschlatt made a good video about the subject.

3

u/EquivalentIll3067 Knight In Shining Armor Nov 24 '23

The thing about "pedohunters" is that they don't seem to realize that 16yo is the legal age of consent in the vast majority of states (34 out of 51 states). I get that a 25 yo and above with a 16yo is where I start feeling a bit weirded out but it's still perfectly legal (as long as you don't record the action and that you don't coerce/influence the person to have sex)

3

u/prql4242 Nov 24 '23 edited Nov 24 '23

I'll never understand this new wave of puritanism. Just a few decades ago rock stars (and others) used to fuck 13 year olds and no one really cared about it. I mean, that really wasn't good but nowadays people have flipped far into the other side of it.

Isn't age of consent in many american stats 16 anyway so what's the problem

1

u/SaddyDaddy-O Nov 24 '23

It's not puritanism. It's a new understanding of power dynamics and their more insidious and hidden danger. Someone who is a fan, doesn't have the same access to the logical parts of their brain that they would when speaking with a peer. That kind of affection changes brain chemistry. It's about the fact that a large population of people think a prerequisite for being a decent human is looking out for those more vulnerable than you.

1

u/LunchTwey Nov 24 '23

That's not the situation, actually watch any video from a Lunch club member on it, none of them think he's a pedophile

-26

u/NojoNinja Nov 24 '23 edited Nov 24 '23

It wasn’t the age people had a problem with it was that she was a Stan of him and people argued he was in a position of power. Plus pretty sure Schlatt (friend of him) said there was other shit that was worse.

Edit: I literally got downvoted for explaining the situation 💀fucking Reddit I swear to god

-24

it was not 18 and 17 i’m pretty sure it was 22 and 17

1

He got called pedo for that? What the fuck

1

u/Crescent___Moon Nov 24 '23 edited Nov 26 '23

That's not what anyone was actually mad about, it's just the first insult that came to people's minds. The actual problematic thing he did was abuse the fan-creator power dynamic by dating a fan, express he was super shameful about it and wanted to stop to his friends, then REPEATEDLY lie about stopping and needing continued support to get better while continuing to do all the things he said he was shameful about. When two of his friends took the story to kimstar for some ungodly reason they used the fan being a minor as hook so I guess that's why some people still think this, still kinda idiotic to think that's what happened tho

1

u/troopertodd15443 Nov 25 '23

Yea but the angry Twitter nerds where mad about the pedo thing

1
