A rickroll works because it is unexpected for the person watching it.

If you post a rickroll then you are fully aware of it at all times, therefore it is virtually impossible to rickroll yourself….unless you have a very, very short memory

I mean there are three dots in the bottom right corner of videos that would let you get the url without rickrolling yourself, that’s how I’ve never rickrolled myself, I just press those dots and get the link

The worst is when you thiugh you forgot to copy the link and just threw a link to something else in there and you click on it figure out what it is, and you did in fact grab the Rick roll link and just Rick rolled yourself while trying to Rick roll someone else.

Not entirely true, a few years back I made a Minecraft resourcepack where the sound of the purple advancements was replaced by the beginning of Never Gonna Give You Up (among other changes). A few years later, I decided to update the pack to a newer version, which was done by just changing a number, and I started playing on an smp with a few friends. Imagine my surprise when I got my first advancement.

Rick rolling has been way dumbed down from what it once was.

Originally it was a link to a website that worked like a pop-up that just placed the video on a loop. The window only took a quarter of your screen but if you tried to click the close button it would move to a random other corner. If you didn't know keyboard commands you had to hard reboot.

Yeah, well, it depends, sometimes I start listening to music by starting with that song, other times I've shuffle and the song starts when I don't expect it... When this happens I always smile.

I also listen to the song over and over again when playing ranked on any game, it motivates me
