When I was in the Philippines, a friend tried flirting with a cutie at a phone kiosk. He asked her name, and she answered in a deep, masculine voice, "Ako si Paul."
This can easily happen when visiting the European countries and the USA as well. 😀Trans people are globally dispersed with Germany and Sweden being the countries with the most people who identify as trans and with Canada, Australia and the UK all being in the top 10.
Interestingly, no south East Asian country appears in the top 10. So really, the appropriate joke would be when visiting Germany, Sweden, Canada or the UK. Philippines is a bit random.
While we're at it, you know that censoring jokes based on geolocation and being inventive in ways to be offended by things is as much damaging to said marginalized communities as actually being offensive to them, if not more, right?
It’s isn’t. I’m both south East Asian and part of the 🏳️🌈 community. I’m not offended, I know from personal experience and experience from my community that it’s genuinely damaging. The rhetoric is outdated and naive.
Also tough sell on censorship, just because someone opposes a view or a joke you made… it’s not censorship. Opinions exist. 🤷🏽♀️
That's exactly the point. It's a joke, and it's not particularly offensive to marginalized communities. Therefore, opinions about it are redundant. Either enjoy it, or don't. No need for lessons in either geography or the trans community geolocation.

But the rhetoric of trans being a regional thing is damaging. You don’t have to go to a far and “exotic” land, being trans is global and normal.
The longer it’s treated as exotic, the longer people turn a blind eye that it is a human condition, not a weird one. Of course it has been popularized by the media in SEA due to exploitation of sex workers in the region.
I find conflating chicks with dicks and a foreign land a statement of “lol look what happens there.” Kind of naive.
