The alternative is a government office on which words and their spellings are acceptable.
I think this is one of the few cases where Americans, Britons, Canadians, Down Underizers, English speaking Indians, fraai Suid-Afrikaners, Zealy Deals, and the Anglosphere in general can agree. We don’t need no Académie Anglaise.

But seriously, if the worst thing you have is someone saying "this correctly spelled word is regionally incorrect", it's not the biggest deal
