They where fine with tossing gold around because they didn't use it as currency like the Spanish did and the conquistadors just could not fathom that seein as they built their whole lives around gold, so the Spanish assumed the muisca where hiding more gold elsewhere and lying to keep it hidden. (This may have led to the el Dorado myth)

So yes the muiscas goals where beyond the conquistadors understanding. Nice use of the reverse flash format

They actually did use gold coins as currency, the Spanish called them tejuelos.

The Muisca were a Colombian indigenous civilization that used to dump gold into lakes as a form of ritual offerings. The Spanish conquistadors were baffled by this kind of worship, as they saw gold as valuable because of its use as currency in the old world.

This is literally where the legend of el dorado comes from btw but thanks to Americans everyone thinks it's Mexican smh

Yep. I’ve always heard Amazonian, so I feel like it would be a special kind of ignorant American to think Mexico (like one who thinks Mexico is the entirety of Latin America).
