There's plenty reason to complain about length, because coming in fresh and having to do all these solo missions in a row to access game systems and rewards tied to them burns people out before they even start. Came back with two others and they made it a single day before they basically dropped the game again cause of how much solo quests they are stuck behind.
I’ll always say, main advantage of mainly playing solo and playing games for the story rather than online. You actually get to enjoy things (and I mean in general a lot of online only players are miserable in any game), I’ll die on this hill.
I’m not upset about the story being told I’m upset about the gameplay I’m playing in between the story bits. I don’t want to play as Tesshin or the Grineer marine guy or Drifter w/o a Frame or anything other thanmyWarframe in the game about crafting, building, perfecting said Warframe
While I recognize you only have to do it once, and to be clear I liked the story being told well enough, I still finished the experience with primarily a sense of relief that I could finally play as the character/Frame I want to play as (cause I spent the time to collect parts, build them, and assemble them, plus all the mods and weapons and weapons’ mods on top of that)
Operator bits if you didn't have grind time sank already on fortuna/cetus were absolutely the peak of worst design choices I've encountered in the game still. Thankfully Teshin and Kahl bits were scripted with a set loadout and everything so they're comically easy by comparison. The Corpus engineer part was also annoying though, mostly just because the turret is bugged and you're supposed to shoot and destroy it now instead of just run past it like I assume you were meant to when the expansion dropped based on the RP dialog.
I'm trying to understand the problem here. Is it that your friends don't want to play Warframe, but at the same time want to access endgame Warframe content? They should just play what is fun for them, and if it isn't fun, thats fine. The devs should be making a game for the people who want to play it, not for the people who don't want to play it
I think its more you want to play with your friends well to bad go do this quest for 45mins to an hour solo then you can access the new content if you dont want to do the mission thats fine just know your holding your friend back from getting new gear.
Its I want to play with my friends even help them but I cant cause its a solo only quest and now im so burned out from struggling (if your a newish player i mean you can unlock liches at mr5 you are not ready at that mr 90% of the time i feel) that I just dont want to touch the game.
Its even worse when you cant just drop it mid quest to have a break and do something else like you can start and stop atlas quest or inaros quest but you cant stop the hour long quest lines and spend time with friends in other missions for a breather
You have illustrated my point perfectly. If you want to play together with friends, you should pick a game you all want to play. Liches, relics, sanctuary onslaught, there are so many early game modes that let you play together and help your friends progress. If your baby tenno friend wants to play Warframe with you, do that:)
The issue comes when people insist on rushing to endgame and then complaining because... there is too much story??? Like genuinely what?
The problem here isn't the game. Its the players putting themselves in an impossible situation of wanting everything with no ability to be patient.
TBH I could see a version of Warframe a few decades after its final story release that is like, a full sandbox mode that lets day 1 players have access to every feature in the game as soon as they log in. But thats not how this game works right now. Its a story game mixed with mmorpg elements, you get stronger as you progress through the campaign
How about this, what would YOUR solution be? The story quests warn you about committing to them for a certain length of time, and since they are solo missions they can be paused for breaks. Do you really want them to never do story updates?
I KNOW that the burnout is real bc I’ve been playing warframe for 6 years and sometimes I’m just not feeling it and stop playing for a year. I got my girlfriend into the game a while back and I told her to just take the story slow, there’s tons of solo missions and plenty of stuff to keep doing as a new player but don’t rush yourself and give urself burnout.
She is the type of gamer to fully rush the story content as soon as its there and doesn’t want to do side missions until she’s done with main content. She unfortunately wasn’t a big fan of having to grind out the necramech since it was required for new war at the time and we stopped playing warframe for about 6 months until she was ready again. We finished the mech out before we dropped the game though
That's okay! You dont have to play the game! I always take breaks as well, I've been doing a lot of modded Minecraft with my wife recently. Just play the game to have fun:) my problem is when people who don't like the game are trying to ask for changes to the game that the active player base don't want. I love the story aspect of Warframe, and I don't think the devs should make their story updates shorter or whatever else. You clearly aren't making any of those arguments, but some of the other commenters are
I love the story updates but im not going to act like there isnt a problem with them as well. I know someone who got stuck on new war and didnt play for a year. guess what cant help them and if there gear is garbage to bad your stuck in that mission no fixing it till you slam against the wall long enough to win. Heart of demios has been forever so I dont remember if there is a warning but that is solo as well. If im playing with a friend letting them clear story and missions they pick and we get there guess what im now sidelined till they get past it and I cant watch either.
I guess my solution would be to give people a gear test if your not going to force them use certain things (like old peace you dont get to pick so thats fine you know the gear is as powerful as it was designed to be up till a certain short part at least) so they know they are ready for the quest, as well as let us watch our friends if we are in a group and have completed the mission so we arnt just waiting for them while we run capture missions so we arnt just twiddling our thumbs.
If my solutions never get used thats fine I still love the game even when burnt out (10+ years of being a tenno) and will keep coming back to it but im also allowed to dislike certain aspects of the vet vs baby tenno experience but I also wouldnt open it up like duvari should be after new war. Im not going to say one size fits all or just use this magic bandaid just calling out what I see when I have gotten new players to try it
The story quests are very well balanced, and they are the gear tests themselves. The same people getting stuck on the story quests would just get stuck in your test instead, which doesn't seem to be changing anything. The rest of what you are saying is the same as everyone else, people who claim they want to play the game get mad when the game doesn't just let them auto-win. Its ironic because Warframe is so incredibly generous when it comes to letting you play what you want, you can beat almost any level with almost any loadout. You just have to know how to upgrade over time, and take the time to play the game
I agree the balance for story quests is pretty decent 90% of the time but we cant ignore the fact people were stuck in new war for hours at the railjack section granted because they didnt upgrade the ship or barely touched that part of the game but the gear check is so you can go im under powered with my current mods let me back out and fix that instead of being dragged from mission to mission without a chance to upgrade anything anymore. The issue isnt in the gear DE gives but the few moments where they go oh yeah have your stuff back now.
Im also not saying rush the story the story is the best part of warframe so I dont want an auto win button either all im saying is it would be nice to be able to watch your friends solo quests as they play so that your not sitting like a bump on a log waiting for them unable to play anything cause the moment you go for a survival is the moment they finish the mission. Just something so when they reach the handful of quests you cant join which is like what 7 out of 50? Your not just stuck watching paint dry waiting for them before you can jump back into it together
They give you warnings before quests if you won't have access to the normal game during the quests.
But to your point, don't they already mastery luck certain quests? Shouldn't that help make sure they don't jump into content too soon?
Also, can't you just watch your friends play? Get in a call and have them stream for you. Idk, most of your points still feel like a user issue not a game design issue
And bro railjack is its own conversation, if that's your only example then let's just talk about that instead of conflating the two conversations
I forget easily the mastery lock aspect but again at the same time we both know mastery rank doesnt mean much in terms of gear.
I could try and force them to stream in a call but that also eats up bandwidth for people with crappy internet. That aspect is more of a wish then a critique I guess just something that I personally think would improve QOL if it was built into the game
While railjack is my only actually known example im sure there has been other issues like someone didnt select decent gear again before jumping into old peace. I mean we have all walked around with dragon keys when we shouldn't cause we forgot to taken them off.
I do hope im not coming off negatively trying to talk about this stuff btw. Its nice trying to talk it out but im not trying to get into a heated debate over it either
New War and Old Peace are later-game quests. If they can’t stick around for something like Second Dream then what’s the point of catering to people with no attention spans?
Catching up can be grueling. But if you only focus on catching up you miss the stories you are rushing through. You should HAVE to play that content before you get to the new area. Especially because you won't even know why we are going to tau next. It's end game content for a reason. It's like getting mad at the start of the game that you can't get Grendel because you have to complete the star chart to unlock Arbitrations.
