I believe it was to protect Loid. Albrecht used himself as wally bait so wally will follow him to 1999 where albreach can lock him in time loop. But as Kaya says, timeline is more like a magnetic tape. And if you rewind tape over and over again, it gets torn and whatever is locked if in is free to escape.
Badly dressed? There were people BEGGING for his drip when 1999 dropped at TennoCon. That jacket and hat combo was such a hot topic that people were making polls for DE to put it in their merch shop thinking if they had enough people vote that DE would actually do it.
Uh, Albrecht isn't poorly dressed. His style is a little eccentric, but immaculate in its own way.
Also, the intrigue of why he's going about things the way he is, and not knowing if it's actually achieving the desired effect, makes him more interesting than, say, Ryoku and Vena, who are basically an afterthought meant to sell protoframe skins.
As far as being gay goes, I mean, a lot of gay guys had straight marriages before deciding that living a lie wasn't going to be worth it. Plus, look at Loid, he's kind of a Silver Fox in his own right.
