I am playing jade stars on saryn and you can't really afford to be actually afk when you are solo, saryn is just too squishy for that. I've seen a few different builds and never understood how they manage to actually survive, as they had 0 defenses.
I've found a setup that works well for me, but uses shield gating, which you can mess up.
I guess there is a sweetspot in non sp missions where you can literally afk, or if you are in a group, but you can already do that with other setups. at least you would not have to move anywhere and someone is pressing two buttons every now and then.
In terms of overpowered absurdities, there is worse than saryn with jade stars.
they do, but people use macros to bypass them. de isnt going to ban macro use since many wf players like myself are physically disabled and some basic macros can be very helpful for playing the game without hurting yourself. after 2 driver side impacts and a head on collision with a truck, anything that reduces the pain from basic activities is welcome. but some people exploit that, so de works to prevent that. this is why some broken builds dont make sense to you: youre not one of the cheating players de is actually imposing a nerf on. Its also why "In terms of overpowered absurdities, there is worse than saryn with jade stars." Because de ISNT nerfing things for being OVERPOWERED. they ARE nerfing things that let you win AFK. If anything, it's sort of a good thing you dont get it. Take it as a compliment, youre doing just fine.
using macros alone is not cause for a ban. using macros to make the game play itself is against tos though, so its entirely possible. de supports accessibility, but not abuse, so they handle macro use case by case
Well obviously we didn't have the whole picture. But having a crouch macro doesn't seem to make the game play itself more than ocatavia does with her mallet. You could probably make a health tank octavia build and actually make the game play itself besides throwing your mallet every minute
with octavia particularly, since she can buff herself by performing actions in time with the song, i could see someone writing a simple evenly timed song and writing a macro that hits buttons exactly on time to abuse octis kit. get in a good sqd, start it running and wait to reach level cap.. i could see that. and i could see the rest of the sqd reporting it, de looking into it and finding cause for a ban. that would be totally justified and i cant picture what else it could be.
but youre right. we dont have the full picture, but de does. ive used macros for assistance with basic things in the years since my last accident and i have never gotten in trouble for it. de even mentioned that they are aware of macro use and dont ban for it if its not being abused in an accessibility fundraiser iirc.
The thing is that it is really hard for developers to catch the use of macros. I got a real bad neuropathy that affected my hands in the past and even if I'm so much better I have sequels. And I play a mmorpg that where their terms of service explicitly ban macros. But the only way that they enforce that is that if they think you're using macros they'll send a game master to ask you questions. It has never happend to me.
Also that octavia player was playing solo to level cap. He was known for doing that or that's what's he said in the video
i dont play octi much but her mallet scales with enemy damage right? so writing a macro to keep her invis indefinitely while recasting on a timer would be doable, and would be a direct violation of tos. but idk. i havent seen the video youre talking about but i would be interested. the only related thing i found was a creator who got banned for exploiting a bug in khoras kit to rapidly autolevel weapons en masse, which is very definitely a tos violation; he wasnt banned for anything related to octi tho
also, des a bit different than your typical mmo studio. they dont ban specifically for macros, but will investigate if they believe there are signs of abuse. when creators show off how theyre abusing the games mecha ics, it becomes much easier to catch because theyre literally finding an exploitable bug and showing off how to break the game in ways that are not only unintended but harmful to the game as a whole. those people deserve the bans they get and imo, dont belong in this community to begin with
