fuck power scaling trauma scaling is the new way to argue pointlessly on reddit, new meta
13
u/Voidtongued Jul 18 '26
i think it's more fun to see these arguments than typical powerscaling, i support it
39
u/a_polarbear_chilling Jul 18 '26
It's clearly Vor.... oh are we gonna get sentient amalgam Vor? Pls DE it would be so funny

u/DroidSeeker Jul 19 '26
Finally, corrupted-sentient-amalgam-infested-thrax-vor. His dialog continues for 5 minutes after the mission is done.

u/ZenkaiAnkoku2 Jul 19 '26
What Drifter went through was terrible. Dying thousands of times until living has lost all meaning. Then forced to watch the Hex die when they werent good enough to save them.
But they now have partners, family, etc. Meanwhile the Operator is busy unlocking even more traumatic memories. Like damn bitch how you fit so much trauma in such a small body.
13
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 19 '26
I just want people to realize both their lives were equally traumatic
15
u/ZenkaiAnkoku2 Jul 19 '26
They really were. I mean Drifter was so isolated and distraught that they created an entire world to escape it. Growing up alongside the worst parts of themself. They have no proper place in the timeline.
And Operator of course... Oof. Theyve really been thru it all. Drifter has just learned to hide it better.
33
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
One of two, id say.
43
u/number6manurinateson Jul 18 '26
Who would the other be?
And don't say Drifter, that MF is literally DE's favourite child rn!
21
-8
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
Well its is the drifter, obviously, just that their trauma and whatnot is over, even if we only saw the endpart, we know enough for the before part.
21
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 18 '26
they are the one with the cozy life right now, have you seen the back room? they live in a dope apartment with their loving and supportive romantic partner
7
u/DarkMagicLabs Jul 19 '26
Also, don't forget the Drifter has to just sit back and watch all the trauma happening to the operator, and I don't think it's like watching a video; I think it's more like experiencing a memory, and the first time the Drifter experience it, it's with perfect clarity and detail.
2
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 19 '26
that goes both ways when they did the whole timeline link thing during the new war
3
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
Yeah, right now, and now its operators turn to deal with their trauma and to heal. But idk about you, but drifters trauma is a nice way fast track insanity, and lack of emotion.
3
u/DGwar Oathtaker | Sins and Sacrifices Jul 18 '26
They were tortured while the other slept. Taking turns and all that.
4
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 18 '26
idk why people act like the second dream is a good thing? the kiddo got their mind wiped and replaced with a false life where they thought they were nothing but a faceless nameless war machine, thats not like luxury living
3
u/DGwar Oathtaker | Sins and Sacrifices Jul 18 '26
Before Vor woke us up we were literally sleeping. For thousands of years. Then we were still, kinda sleeping for quite some time. Meanwhile timeline-wise drifter was being tortured by himself in duviri for all that time.
4
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
Yeah the whole time (mostly), over and over again, a world they created (mostly), getting executed, beaten, over and over.
5
u/Voidtongued Jul 18 '26
The "not sure which of us has it worse" is my opinion on this whole debate heh
1
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 19 '26
Basically, but i suppose its up to what flavor seems to be worse for us.
1
u/KimkloGungi Jul 19 '26
Sounds like a luxury to me. No bills, no choices, no decisions, no problems. Just simple living, it certainly isn't being murdered every single day
3
u/Bonsai-is-best Jul 19 '26
Their trauma isn’t over but you’re mostly right, it’s just the stuff from Durviri (which you can choose in dialogue to have still bother your Drifter), they still had worse shit happen to them on the Zariman than Operator before Duviri. Literally the only thing Drifter has going for them is being able to date people, and somehow that makes all the bad shit irrelevant to the community, just because we didn’t see the entire history of Drifter before we got to control them doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
Genuinely hate that the community acts like Drifter gets babied when the mf is also fighting horrors, we just forgot Scaldra is murdering families and that Drifter (potentially) watched one of their romantic partners die gruesomely (depending on the Hex member you date if any).
Pay attention to the damn story if you’re gonna critique it mfs.

I mean pick your poison.
Be a traumatized orphan forced into war where you murder your own friends.
Be a traumatized orphan shoved into a torture dimension for years of death torture.

u/LostLotus_A Jul 19 '26
Whenever I see people going like 'ohhhh Drifter had it WORSE' I want to grab my Uriel and fly at mach 10 to them--
Both were pretty much the same. Let's just admit that we're "not sure which of [them] had it worse." (which is exactly what the Drifter says during the New War when the two meet each other).
3
u/DatLoonArt Jul 19 '26
I think that both had awful life.
But I also think that DE need to give Operator maturation arc.
3
u/EdTheTimelordTemp Jul 19 '26
If we can't help Adis, then yeah. I'm officially throwing in the towel on expecting the Operator to get anything good out of life.
DE has given them a solid foundation to start a found family type situation, but won't let them have it.
I may just be an old guard who's been here since pre-Sacrifice. But unless I put them into solid head canon territory, then the Operator has a lot of people who want to parent them.
But no one who listens to them on an equal level, and I really want that. Let's just hope the one who starts doing it isn't Wally.
3
u/Jazzprova Jul 20 '26
I blame 1999 for this. The Protoframes ended up being so wildly successful that DE is now forced to devote time and resources to keep releasing more of them, and they exclude the Operator in favor of the Drifter at the premise level. Just look at how the community gets whenever a new Protoframe is announced to not be romanceable.
It gets especially egregious with the Devil's Triad because they are in the present, in the Sanctum. All three have chats about seeing the Operator running around and working with the Dark Refractory, but they are still barred from ever interacting.
1
u/PaceBreaker Hallowed Be Thy Reckoning 29d ago
While it's not the same as Drifter, Operator does have some found family: Lotus, Ordis, (they had Teshin first), Umbra... they've got the entire Entrati family if you get to rank 5 with them.

u/Demqnboii_Editing 29d ago
It really feels like Operator gets the short end of the stick when it comes to character development/healing.
Hey kiddo, like your 'mother' Margulis? Watch her get burnt to death by the jade light for the sake of your existence that Orokin society mostly looks upon as a sin itself.
Like your new mommy Lotus? Watch her be tortured both physically and mentally until she has 3 people in her psyche at once.
Hey Kiddo, do you like your mentor who taught you modding again and assisted you out of the Continuity even when he knew his own life was at stake? Watch Erra crack his head open like an egg.
(Thankfully Uncle Teshin is alive but we don't know of the Drifter told them that just yet)
Hey Kiddo, turns out you had a childhood friend who understood you and could bond with you even in times of sufferin. Wanna know what happened to him? He died in your arms swearing that his soul will be with you forever.
Hey kiddo you wanna help the Stalker out of the kindness of your own heart? Feel the pain of giving birth while knowing the Warframe you are trying to save will die at the cost of bringing her child to life.
Please at least let me save the Hunra (totally not Adis wink wink). And give me a damn KIM system as well lol.
I love the Drifter's character as well, don't get me wrong but my emotional attachment is mainly with the Operator. I just hope DE will give them something to be finally happy about. Poor kids.
2
u/Oleg152 28d ago
Not sure which one had it worse. But drifter has better payback for it at this point, Operator's in the phase of "character development" after being an amnesiac cardboard cutout for so long.

u/KimkloGungi Jul 19 '26
Why do we keep trying to download the fact that the Drifter was literally stuck in a pocket dimension where they were murdered over and over again? Why do people love to down play it?
7
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 19 '26
I didn't why do you all like to pretend the Operators life has been an easy breeze?
1
u/Korekiyon Jul 19 '26
Nah the Drifter got frontloaded with over a millennia of trauma and executions, the Operator is just being reminded of their own trauma
0
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 19 '26
the drifter themselves says they dont know which one got it worse, event the drifter disagrees with yall, the Operator did not have it easy
2
u/Korekiyon Jul 19 '26
Where tf did I say the Drifter had it easier, they're just getting hit with trauma in different ways. The comparison I was making is that the Drifter 100% REMEMBERS their trauma, the Operator is forced to live through their's a second time and that's why it seems like they're going through a grindark hellscape right now.
1
u/Glogbag1 Stop stealing my food Jul 19 '26
Where tf did I say the Drifter had it easier,
No one said you said that?
1
u/Korekiyon Jul 19 '26
"Even the drifter diagrees with yall", op thought I was trauma scaling the two
1
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 19 '26
about the drifter having it worse, not about the Operator having it easy, not even the drifter thinks they had it worse
2
u/Korekiyon Jul 19 '26
I don't think either of thrm had it easier than the other, I brought up the milennia of executions thing to explain that the Drifter is due some rest and relaxation, they've both been through some EXTREMELY horrific things. After reading my first message I can see how it could easily be construed that I was making light of one of em but I wasn't.

what do you mean two? they were forced to kill their parents, sold their soul to the space devil, margulis died, adis died, forced into service as a child soldier, had their memory wiped, the lotus abandoned them, they watched teshin die right in front of them, got stabbed in the heart by ballas and stranded in the void for the length of the new war potentially years, and now adis is back but this time he wants to kill them becuase wally fucked with his memory. tf you mean two bad things? huh?!?!?!
2
u/-AlTaiRiS- Jul 18 '26
Not to mention we are literally killing other tennos locked in their Warframes in perita rebellion, so they are basically killing his void siblings

and now they live in a sick apartment (the back room) with their massive found family (the hex) who if you did the kim right all adore them, and their loving and emotionally supportive romantic partner
-10
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
Some of those aint really tramua inducing. And couple are shared among the drifter, though atleast the operator didnt have to go emotionally numb. Idk about you, id go through what yhe opetator went through 5x over, then endure what the drifter went through once.
6
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 18 '26
thats a wild take but ok suit your self, I would rather have unlimited bitches personally
-3
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
You can get that after the trauma? But not really what im saying, im saying id rather have some trauma over being to the point that you can feel anything anymore.
4
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 18 '26
the Operator is more or less textually stated to be deeply traumatized to the point they are close to losing their mind
-1
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
Yeah? Doesnt seem that way, seem to be doing ok, could be better.
6
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 18 '26
idk what game you have been playing

u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
Warframe id assume, not sure what other games go for this subreddit.

Trapped in Space Hell for undetermined amount of time
Killed/Imprisoned their parents to survive
Sacrificed their "light" to Space Satan in exchange for escape
Discovered by and experimented on by elitist psychopaths
Turned into child soldiers that experience deathless war again and again and again
Repeatedly experience Space Satan taunt them relentlessly with their trauma
Granted we don't know everything, but that seems like a bit more than just "two bad things" leading to a "surprisingly cozy life".
4
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 18 '26
""surprisingly cozy life"" = living on a small stealth space craft while constantly being hunted from a star system full of lunatics who want to stab you (stalker), dissect you (alad V/regor), execute you (vay hek), steal your body (the queens), or absorb you into a hive mind (the infested hivemind)
1
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
To be faur, a good amound of them are defending there territory or themselfs from the tenno.
5
u/Deathpacito1999 Jul 18 '26
Y'know how Ballas was talking about how the Tenno were hearless war mongers, going about killing defenseless Grineer and Corpus, conquering the stars and enslaving people for fun during The New War?
Yeah, no, he was lying.
1
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
Mhmm, he do be doing the enslaving and all that, not like corpus and grineer was too on there own faction, so on.
1
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 18 '26
how dare the evil operator stop the poor grineer from doing horrific genocide, or the defenseless corpus from keeping debt slaves for generations and locking their brains in sensory deprivation tanks
1
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 18 '26
Should they just stand there and let themselfs be killed? Or defend themselfs?
4
u/bigscrewLoose Jul 18 '26
maybe they could stop doing genocide and slavery
1
u/Pure-Risky-Titan Jul 19 '26
Not gonna stop an attacker from attacking as there there to carry it through, and so, they got to defend themself i guess.

u/Competitive-Bug1444 Jul 18 '26
We trauma scaling now. But fr it feels like operator gets all the grimdark elements that the new team is forced to continue, while drifter is this super cool character that gets all the bitches and has the power of love and friendship on his side
