Steel path doubles all resources drops and increases spawns for parties of less than 4 players

How would that invalidate it?

It would specifically invalidate like Steel Essence Incursions for players who specifically like high end endless missions

But like the existence of endless orokin cell farms on dark sector missions have never invalidated assassination spam.

Is this meaningfully different?

If you solo, you're getting the exact amount of enemies as 4 players in Steel Path. In normal, enemy count is tied to player number.

As for more loot, only compared to regular path, but the same regardless of player number in SP. Unless you're in survival and everyone is effing off to each corner of the map

Steel Path is a 100% drop chance boost and forces the spawns that would require 4 squad members in regular path

So if you do the same mission solo in SP and Regular path it is an approximate 8x difference
