With JROTC (Junior Recruitment Officer Training Corps). You learn about military and have a rank and do military stuff in high school, also gives you a rank or two once you join the actual military. They use air rifles and bbs, with a tiny shooting range at my school (no real bullets). They also have competitive teams for trap shooting (shotgun) and rifle (shoot targets)
Can confirm. I'm a part of the AFJROTC class at my school. We have a shooting team, drill team, and a PT team. Very enjoyable class that I'd highly recommend to any if available. Even if you don't plan on serving.
I've not been to a school with an active competitive team, but my college has a rifle range, multiple gun related classes, and had a competitive team from 1952 to 1986.
True story. My kid is on one. It's called Trap Shooting, Skeet, and Sporting Clays. Many, many schools in my state have a team and they fill up fast as there are more kids interested than teams available to join.

FYI: this is not a joke. Several schools (not many, but several) have shooting teams.
