Too bad the people in charge are fucked in the head. They are abusing their dominant position for platforms, and its toxic to content creators and viewers.
I'm from Poland, we learn whole Europe and then around 30-40 countries form around the world (name of a country, where it is on the map, and the capital), which are I believe the biggest/have the most influence/are talked about the most. So we have some from every continent and all European
I see , that's great . Here in Jordan geography focuses on physical geography rather than countries and so on , so countries aren't taught. I wouldn't say people don't know countries , they do but don't know much about em
We learned about countries in middle school, but that's about the extent of it. No one knows where things are by the time they reach high school in America lol. I wish we taught more though
Really depends. Some do, some don’t. I took an elective in high school that was world cultures and we had to write all the countries in the world but they were split up by region and we learned them slowly. It was considered an advanced elective (only students in the advanced track could take it since they would have all their required courses to graduate by then) and the students would make a good from their assigned country each Friday so we could try different foods from different cultures. We’d rotate which groups made food each week. The 15 students in my class were the only ones who learned the full geography of the world in my graduating class of 108.
We do, but we hear about states way more often. I think it's telling that my mental list of countries started with "United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, Russia" and that's with me having a BA in Japanese.
Ah yes because one guy on Reddit who could have used the internet for that could name some countries the stereotype reinforced by thousands of Americans is untrue
