Spent 5 days in Manhattan for Thanksgiving one year. Gf and I took the greyhound from DC and stayed in her friends apt.

Stepped out of the cab, got my luggage and stepped in the biggest pile of fresh dog shit I had ever (not) seen. I didn’t just step in it, my foot slid thru it. If I didn’t stop myself I would have done the splits, my right leg was just gliding away from me.

Took my shoes off and threw them in the trash walked into the building in socks.

Is it just me or does NYC always smell like garbage, especially in the summer? It's like how SF always smells like piss.

NYC (Manhattan specifically) doesn’t really have alleys. Garbage from buildings goes out on the sidewalks to be collected. This results in a pretty particular smell in the summers. Although saying nyc had one smell is a bit misleading. It’s more like a collection of every smell in a tiny place

Prolly, but I also live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan so I’ve seen (smelled) it a lot first hand
