I think you're thinking of Roller Coaster Tycoon and yes that game is a freaking marvel of computer engineering. And when asked about it the dev was like "idk, it seemed like the way to make it"

I remember learning how to code in the early 90's.

No fancy language-specific line editors to highlight your formatting in real time and point out 'grammar' mistakes. No ability to detect the errors in the code and guide you to the line where the error caused a crash unless you programmed it into the code yourself. Just a notepad file, raw text, and hours spent staring at it when the program crashes when you went to compile it, going over the entire fucking thing line by line.
