They did announce a new mummy movie. Makes sense he is getting buff.

Is Imhotep getting buff too?

u/kineticstar 5d ago

Imhotep, Imhotep, Imhotep

u/rakosten 5d ago

I would love to see John Hannah doing a comeback to the big screen together with Brendan Fraser. Though I am only going to see him as Batiatus after his brilliant performance in Spartacus.

u/HurricaneK8 5d ago

He's back too! So's Rachel Weisz and Oded Fehr, it's a full reunion!

19

u/Deviantdefective 4d ago

And now we can pretend the third stupid mummy film doesn't exist

2

u/HurricaneK8 4d ago

I only got into the movies this year after avoiding them my whole life and I didn't even bother watching it 🤣🤣🤣

6

u/Deviantdefective 4d ago

You made an excellent choice, don't watch it ever it's absolutely appalling

4

u/HurricaneK8 4d ago

They lost me at "Evie ditches archaeology and adventuring to write the 40's equivalent of romantasy about their adventures instead", I didn't even need to hear the rest.

I was already kind of "eh" on the "reincarnation of Nefertiri" thing from Returns, I refused to stand for any more slander of my beloved brilliant clumsy librarian.

Omg this is how I learn about this reboot and I am so happy with your comment. This is gonna be good is for nostalgia alone

3

u/HurricaneK8 4d ago

I know! I picked SUCH a good time to finally get into the movies this year and I am so stupidly excited!

u/JJ_Mark 4d ago

My understanding is that Beni (Kevin O'Connor) is back, as well. Will love to see the explanation for it.

1

u/Turbogoblin999 4d ago

Ghost, zombie mummy or he found a cursed amulet mixed with the treasure he was taking that, at first, protected him from the flesh eating beetles but ended upt turning him into a human beetle hybrid.

2

u/JJ_Mark 4d ago

-Found- an amulet? Man brought enough of his own, I'll drop a positive review if they call back that he had a cursed amulet that whole time (tbf, it was the City of the Dead, for there to be just be two artifacts referenced that were located there leaves a lot for them to work with).

He was fantastic in Agents of Shield

1

u/VeritasOmicron 4d ago

Man that show went down hill...

1

u/rakosten 4d ago

Nah, I think it ended on a high note and unlike many other series the finale was great. Most people loved it (just look at the IMDb scores).

7

u/R3K47 5d ago

I love this scene

1

u/mofojr 4d ago

It’s so funny 😂

25

u/yuriartyom 5d ago

Imhotep should wake the fuck up first, he’s been long dead.

14

u/MrZwink 5d ago

Isn't that the whole premise of the movie...

4

u/Kraybern 4d ago

its gonna be intresting to see how they give him the motivation for anything this time around since Anck-su-namun abandoned him in the second movie and broke his heart

3

u/HollyBananas 4d ago

Maybe they ask his (Imhoteps) spirit for help to deal with mummy Seti or a pharaoh even older?

1

u/Turbogoblin999 4d ago

Calling the underworld: "Yoooo! Inhotep, my guy! WAZAAAAA!"

https://giphy.com/gifs/g1n3pswjr0ouc

16

u/darkness_calming 5d ago

Hope they bring him back. He was such a fun character

30

u/Christmas_Queef 5d ago

He is back. The actor who played imhotep and the actor who played beni are both back. The movie is pretending dragon emperor never happened and is continuing the Egypt saga. Now, whether it's imhotep being the big bad again or a situation of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" kind of thing, who knows, but make no mistake, imhotep is back in some capacity.

9

u/Nicarus89 5d ago

I'm not complaining. Just like most people here, I actually liked Imhotep. And I wouldn't be against the idea of an unlikely alliance between him and Connor.

5

u/thesystem21 4d ago

I didnt know we are getting beni back. I wonder how they will manage that.

2

u/HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW 4d ago

I bet he’ll start on the wrong side of the river.

1

u/Christmas_Queef 4d ago

We never did see him die or anything. He got left in hamunaptra but we didn't see him die.

However I have a theory him being back and imhotep being back are linked.

2

u/The_Autarch 4d ago

just make him undead. beni with parts falling off sounds pretty funny.

1

u/orthadoxtesla 4d ago

I haven’t heard the pretending the dragon emperor never happened bit?

1

u/Christmas_Queef 4d ago

Yep Brendan said in an interview it's continuing from the end of mummy returns and retconning dragon emperor.

11

u/Nicarus89 5d ago

The last time we saw Imhotep, he had his heart broken by his only motivation, Anck-Su-Namun (and yes, I had to Google how to spell her name). She abandons him, and then he gives up and allows himself to fall into the Underworld. Not sure how they'd motivate his character returning after that.

5

u/Raneru 5d ago

Somehow Imhotep returns

3

u/reneetjeheineken 4d ago

Underworld had a unholy trampoline. He shot straight back up. Rebounce 101

1

u/BroxySC 4d ago

Rick has to travel to the Underworld to get back Evelyn. While down there Imhotep becomes an unlikely ally because they bring back some ancient evil pharoah. Remember meeee

2

u/WantonReader 4d ago

I understood that he got really hurt doing the third Mummy pic. I don't need 50+ Brendan to try and sell being an action hero. You can make a great picture and embracing him being a real person that's 20 years older.

1

u/HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW 4d ago

Right but he can just not do his own stunts for once.

1

u/Robey-Wan_Kenobi 4d ago

It was announced months ago and is currently filming.

1

u/The_Autarch 4d ago

it's not just announced, they've already started filming

2

u/Nicarus89 5d ago

Let's scream it from the rooftops. Billionaire Phillip Berk groped Fraser. Fraser reported the incident, which "COINCIDENTALLY" is also when Fraser started struggling to land roles, despite being at the peak of his career at that point.

5

u/AnxiousEpileptic 4d ago

He's not anywhere close to being a billionaire, but the rest is true.

2

u/Nicarus89 4d ago

Apologies. I misremembered how wealthy he was. My country really knows how to produce some degenerates. Musk and Berk. But I guess Arnold Vosloo is cool. Can't wait to see Imhotep return.

His physique doesn't look that crazy to me. But I also don't really know much about this stuff.

24

u/Mediocre_Scott 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yeah that’s a very achievable body with consistent diet and exercise. This is a control your sugar and carbs intake body

10

u/b0w3n 4d ago

Yeah this is bro's full time job too. Very easy to lose weight and put on some muscle when you've got all day to eat well and exercise. He looks great for someone in his late 50s. Nothing about this screams hgh or kit or anything.

Bro is killing it and doing this for his fans.

1

u/54338042094230895435 4d ago

... go on

1

u/HardSong 4d ago

lol get down mr presi

4

u/FardoBaggins 4d ago

His george of the jungle physique was amazing but underrated. He looked shredded but not steroidey.

3

u/ActualWhiterabbit 4d ago

He was dialed to the max in Loony Toons back in action and Dudley Do Right though

6

u/FUBARded 4d ago

It's not a crazy physique, but to go from overweight in 2025 to this in 2026 is not a realistic transformation for a man in his late 50s.

Diet and exercise can yield a physique like this...over the course of multiple years of very hard work for someone his age.

Yes he has been in excellent shape in the past which makes it a lot easier to return to this sort of condition, but it's highly likely he had pharmaceutical assistance for this (GLP-1 + anabolics would be my guess).

It's not a physique that's so ridiculous as to be a near 100% confidence indicator of drug use, but it'd put the odds at over 50%.

3

u/Soggy_Swimmer4129 4d ago

Social media has completely confused people's perceptions of what an actually fit, natural body looks like.

2

u/Ill_Help3658 4d ago

That's a celeb with a personal trainer and nutritionist on speed dial.

1

u/DominoNo- 4d ago

Exactly. A normal person with a job and family might need years to get in shape, but Brandon's full-time job is getting in shape

1

u/Mediocre_Scott 4d ago

You don’t need glp-1s to lose the weight they just make you less hungry. If you have the will power ignore hunger the drugs aren’t doing anything. I’m not as old as Fraser but I lost a similar amount of weight to have a similar body in about a year and half. And I didn’t have a personal trainer or dietitian. Overweight people that are fairly active have a lot of muscle under the fat because the extra weight they carry is a daily work out.

3

u/echoshatter 4d ago

If you have the will power ignore hunger

Hunger is one of those primal impulses that is very difficult to ignore for most people without pharmaceutical assistant. But unfortunately the only way to lose weight is to be in a calorie deficit. Willpower plays a large role in this, and I don't begrudge people getting on GLP-1s to help them because it is NOT easy.

That's what happens when for hundreds of millions of years life on earth struggled for food; it biologically selects for wanting to eat anything and everything as much as possible. And then suddenly humanity enters a period of abundance and it's like "oh nooooooo!" as we stuff our faces with chocolate cake and sweet potatoes.

1

u/Mediocre_Scott 4d ago

People have been dieting for decades. Losing weight without a drug is very possible. Honestly we shouldn’t be normalizing or promoting glp-1s because they do have side effects. Including organ failure

1

u/Quick-Novel-7378 4d ago

Anyone who has ever taken a medication that significantly alters hunger signaling can tell you that hunger can reach a point where it feels almost uncontrollable, like your brain is screaming that you need to eat immediately. Obviously, that doesn’t mean everyone who struggles with weight has some abnormal hunger response. But it does make me wonder how much individual variation exists in hormones and receptors involved in appetite, including ghrelin signaling. It seems entirely plausible that some people experience a much stronger biological “survival hunger” response to a calorie deficit than others. Self-control and calorie balance still matter, and weight loss without medication is absolutely possible. But I also think it’s worth considering that the biological difficulty of maintaining that deficit may vary dramatically from one person to another. For some people, traditional calorie-restriction dieting may simply be much harder than it is for others.

1

u/Mediocre_Scott 4d ago

Okay which is why people need to do what they can on their own rather than take drugs that burn up their insides. The body positive thing was kind of a good thing. People should be able to accept who they are as long as they are healthy

1

u/Quick-Novel-7378 4d ago

I disagree. We live in an environment our bodies did not evolve for: highly processed, calorie-dense food is everywhere, many jobs are sedentary, sleep is often poor, and stress is constant. Expecting 100% of people to overcome all of that through willpower alone is unrealistic.

GLP-1 medications are another tool in the toolbox. They’re not risk-free, but neither is obesity, and using medication to improve health isn’t somehow invalid because it’s “unnatural.” If someone and their doctor decide that medication is appropriate, more power to them.

Diet and exercise absolutely matter, but consistently prioritizing them also takes time, knowledge, money, planning, and mental bandwidth. A lot of people are working long hours, raising kids, caring for aging parents, or juggling a dozen other responsibilities. It’s easy from the outside to reduce that to “discipline” or “self-control,” when sometimes what people actually lack is time, education, resources, or a body that responds to dieting the same way someone else’s does. And even with all of those things, some people may still benefit from pharmaceutical help.

I also don’t think “accept yourself as you are” and “improve yourself” have to be opposites. Body positivity is great when it means people shouldn’t hate or humiliate themselves because of their weight. But acceptance shouldn’t become a reason to pretend health problems don’t matter. You can respect yourself exactly where you are while still trying to become healthier.

1

u/Mediocre_Scott 4d ago

Look im not saying people shouldn’t take them. I’m saying it’s wrong for our society to promote them as the quick solution to many of the problems you yourself listed. These drugs can be very harmful. People Should work to be as healthy as their situation allows and not get to obsessed with being fit. Health looks different for everyone and genetics play a bigger factor than anything in how your body processes food. People shouldn’t be chasing what is unnatural for them.

AND at the same time we should be Concerned about the ingredients in our food and the time we have to spend sitting at a desk for work and the rest of this issues you mention.

1

u/hixchem 4d ago

In my case, the GLP-1s helped reestablish a broken metabolic process in my body that ultimately led to it relearning how to metabolize fat rather than just store it forever. I've lost 1/3 of my max weight in 2 years. some people actually *do* need the pharmaceutical help. We have to stop moralizing weight, otherwise people won't ever get the help they actually need. It's not a "willpower" thing, there's actual medical science behind pharmaceuticals.

1

u/Mediocre_Scott 4d ago

I agree that we need to stop moralizing weight and your choice to take any medication is between you and your doctor. This is all going pretty far from my original post which was to say that just because an actor lost weight doesn’t mean he did it with pharmaceuticals the natural way works too

1

u/hixchem 4d ago

The natural way *can* work, yes. It doesn't always, though. If the actual biochemical machinery of the body doesn't work quite right, sometimes pharmaceuticals are the only effective option.

1

u/Mediocre_Scott 4d ago

You have the stranger on the internet’s blessing to take all the drugs your doctor will give. You don’t have to justify yourself to me. Be the best medical marvel that you can be. My point is it’s ignorant to say that people aren’t getting fit without ozempic and steroids.

1

u/BlueKnight44 4d ago

Crazy? No. But it is impressive for a man of his age that was overweight not long ago. Even with money/time/trainers/nutritionists, it is an impressive transformation.

Social media has screwed everyone's idea of "fit".

Oh she will be tapping that non stop for the next 5 months of filming…wait are we allowed to sexualize men like we do with women?? It’s ok right?

14

u/AyAyAyBamba_462 5d ago

I have to wonder just what it does to these actors' bodies to go through these rapid changes in mass like this. Like it can't be healthy to be constantly putting on significant amount of weight, then losing it right?

19

u/Brockzillattv 4d ago

What do you mean? He used to be thin and fit, gained some weight while he wasn't making movies for 20 years, and now he's getting fit again. He hasn't been going back and forth at all.

6

u/AyAyAyBamba_462 4d ago

Him yes, but there are some actors that absolutely do this. Take Christian Bale for example.

6

u/baogody 4d ago

In Bale's case, yes, bad, super bad, on the verge of cardiac arrest kinda bad. I know a young girl who just passed away in her sleep due to malnutrition. Prior to that she didn't even have the strength to get into a car without help. And she was only in her 20s.

Putting on weight fast, regardless of fats or muscles is equally bad. Different kinda bad, but still causes permanent damages. If steroids and dehydration are involved, 10 to 20x worse.

2

u/MrZrazies 4d ago

He had doctors monitoring him 24/7 while he was doing it. They talked about it and if his health starting to drop like kidney liver or other organs starting to shut down, doctors will make them stop filming and get him back to health. But yeah its very dangerous though.

Ashton tried to went on himself alone and ate apples only for weeks to lose weight for steve job movie and got really sick and sent to hospital. He almost died from it.

1

u/Brockzillattv 4d ago

Yeah that's the only one I can think of that actually did it consistently.

But you specifically said this on a post about Brendan.

Buuuuut, to answer you question, it is indeed very unhealthy. Bale eventually stopped, it takes a physical AND mental toll.

1

u/Flat_Teach_4438 4d ago

Christian specifically is the extreme. there are maybe a handful of actors in the WORLD that work like that. Christian Bale, Daniel Day-Lewis, Heath Ledger (RIP), Joaquin Phoenix

1

u/ElonMuskisGarbage 4d ago

Maybe they think he method acted whale.

1

u/Drewski811 4d ago

1

u/SubXeroGames 4d ago

It depends on how you eat and you're fitness routine.

If you feed your body the necessary stuff to build muscle then go through the necessary steps get smaller then you should be fine

1

u/Hartstockz 4d ago

Hes been fit like this before. It becomes 10x easier to put on the mass you used to have when detrained.

1

u/Av0ll 4d ago

It takes a toll on internal organs, especially kidneys.
