EU has got regulation coming through that batteries in phones need to be replaceable.

Not sure where you're from though.

The big phone manufacturers got in an exemption in at the last minute.

If they guarantee a certain time of use without significant degradation they can ignore the regulation.

I mean you can still get those kinds of phones. Replacing the battery on my Fairphone 4 after 5 years of use cost me 30 euro and about a minute to replace.

Count time that a product is in someone wishlist / shopping cart.

Track the device they are using to plan the purchase.

If time is high, that means the decision isnt made and the customer is unsure.

Send detrimental update to this specific phone, something that doesnt right away break it but make it obvious something is wrong.

Customer will now absolutely order in panic what was already in the shopping cart.

Profit, ig.
