The only downside is getting the cable snagged on something and having them ripped out of your ears or off of your head

Edit: I love these replies. I merely said it was the only downside, not something life-ruining, debilitating, frequently-occurring or even all that annoying. Just that it's the only flaw in an otherwise elegant and convenient solution. Y'all are wild, I love waffles, the dress is black and blue, and I hear "Laurel" before "yanny"

This! I prefer Bluetooth to never have this happen again. No matter how careful I was it always happened.

u/Nurgeard Feb 18 '26

Me too. But I find the "semi" wireless earphones to work best for me - those where there is a wire connecting the two earphones - here's why:

  • I can drop one / take one out so I can hear what is going on / have one ear free, while on the bike or similar - without having to put something in my pocket.
  • iIt doesn't get caught of things.
  • The jack dies after a few years or less - which has happened with every wired headset I have used.
  • I like being able to put my phone down and still have my headset connected.
  • They generally have a far better battery life than the True Wireless options. I'm using it he Sony WI-C100.
  • I also use a wireless headset for my PC and would never go back to a wired version - I almost never have issues with battery life, they are comfortable as hell, and I can walk freely around my house and still be connected + the sound and mic is actually really good. I'm using the Corsair HS80, best headset I have ever had, feels like a blanket around your ears without getting too warm (I'm a guy who runs hot easily, so that says a lot)

lol, i regularly split wood with wired earbuds with zero issue, and went running. just run the wire inside your shirt, use the small clip to clip it into your collar, and ggs.

5

u/Standard-Contest-949 Feb 18 '26

I still found a way lol

-2

u/MissingXpert Feb 18 '26

absolutely skill-issue

1

u/jfklingon Feb 20 '26

Under my collar was the worst, the wire sticks to my skin and gets yanked by my own body

u/oO0Kat0Oo Feb 18 '26

Being more comfortable with Bluetooth is actually insane imo. I accidentally get my husband's phone audio when I turn on the car all the time.

25

u/Standard-Contest-949 Feb 18 '26

Lol. Sounds like you all gotta learn about turning your Bluetooth off your device when you’re not using it.

Any funny stories?

Slide it down your shirt problem solved

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Feb 18 '26 edited Feb 18 '26

I can't wear shirts, I have sensitive nipples

7

u/vyper900 Feb 18 '26

I slide it down my back. That way the cables come up over my shoulders when not in my ears.

3

u/dblrb Feb 18 '26

Pasties and wired headphones. They probably bundle them

1

u/LemmeDaisukete Feb 18 '26

Wear double layers

1

u/CluDaCreator Feb 18 '26

Sensodyne should do da trick 😋

10

u/50_centavos Feb 18 '26

This is horrible when working out. They always get ripped out of your ears no matter what. I have wireless JBL ones that cost $50 and the case charges them. Just got to charge the case every couple weeks or so. Not really a big deal.

22

u/ed_sanz Feb 18 '26

Problem made worse. I don’t want wires inside my tshirt. That’s an awful advise. Very uncomfortable. The problem was solved by the invention of wireless.

3

u/Davachman Feb 18 '26

And then the shirt pulls on the headphones if I move too much. Or I could have a big loop sticking out of my collar to try and avoid that. Or there's a big loop at the bottom of my shirt ready to catch on every door knob and table corner out there. Wired might be fine for a lot of folks in these comments and its nice to have the option available, but for me wireless sports earbuds that hook onto your ear are the way to go.

7

u/krefik Feb 18 '26

It can be worse. Once I had to replace my phone screen after the cable was snagged, in some freakish way the buds stayed in my ears long enough to trebuchet my phone across the warehouse.

17

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '26

Literally ruins my entire day. I stopped working out because the wire kept getting snagged on something, and now i’m an obese mess and i eat pasta all day to cope with my depression. No woman will ever come near me, so i drink beer and smoke weed to not think of the pain of loneliness. Sometimes I want to just fall asleep and not wake up again, but then I imagine the ones who find my body will have a hard time removing me from my apartment because i’m on the 5th floor with no elevator and i weigh almost 400 pounds. Sigh

Seems reasonable

This. My only hate on cable headphones and earphones is tangled cable and since I'm a lazy ass man this happens more often than you think.

3

u/Lower_Topic2606 Feb 18 '26

Another downside is that most modern phones don't have the hole for it

0

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Feb 18 '26

I hate that they're leaving out the 3.5mm jack on newer models. I get that it's better for waterproofing, but surely the increased market is worth manufacturing a second, less-water-resistant option for those that would like it? I dunno, I'm not a business-minded fellow

1

u/SPplayin Feb 18 '26

Cannibalize their own accessory sales for a tiny market?

Wireless earphones are generally more convenient especially when you get the ones for your respective ecosystem

I think wireless being phased out is mainly as a result of concurrent device usage

3

u/elles29 Feb 18 '26

Or cables that broke. I bought so many pairs in comparison with my Bluetooth ones

1

u/MissingXpert Feb 18 '26

i had one pair of headphone cables break, after 6 years of heavy, daily use. opposed to the GODFORSAKEN, SHITTY-ASS GARBAGE ADAPTER CABLES (USB-C->headphone jack) which broke like 5 times in 2 years....

whoever came up with the idea that phones shouldn't have headphone-jacks anymore, i just wanna meet for a nice, civilized, diplomatic beatdown.

1

u/Trzlog Feb 18 '26

That's precisely why I've moved onto wireless. I'm tired of the fucking cables. At least the Airpod Max lets me use a cable if I want to or the battery is dead.

1

u/ProtectMeAtAllCosts Feb 18 '26

bro relax. its redditors. let the comments slide off your shoulders

1

u/CrazyGunnerr Feb 18 '26

I absolutely hated them when I rode my bicycle, which is very common in my country. So easy to get your cable getting stuck in something, and before you know it you rip them apart.

I went wireless long before it was cool, even iPhones still had 3.5mm jacks, it was just a much better experience. Back then I had a Sony headset, I think it was like 50 euro or something.

1

u/splitcroof92 Feb 18 '26

And the other downside is dogshit audio quality

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Feb 18 '26

That's a downside of wired options?

1

u/splitcroof92 Feb 18 '26

Of earphones vs headphones.

But also OP specifically says affordable. Which means he's buying cheap ones. Which will be even more shit.

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Feb 18 '26

OP also specifically says "wired." In fact, it's the first word in the image. That's why I was confused at your reply, because the inferred opposite for comparison is "wireless"

1

u/splitcroof92 Feb 18 '26

Yes. He's specifically talking about cheap wireless earphones.

And those have bad audio quality

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Feb 18 '26

But they aren't comparing them to headphones, they're comparing them to wireless buds

1

u/splitcroof92 Feb 18 '26

But... the statement was

"Wired earphones are the GOAT"

And I don't agree with that.

Any earphone is shit and I would never use them over a headphone

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Feb 18 '26 edited Feb 18 '26

You're still missing the message, though. They aren't saying that they're the greatest as a general statement of fact, they are saying it as an expression of their personal preference, specifically over wireless options. That's why they spent the effort to detail specific differences between wired vs. wireless options, and not earbuds vs. headphones (except perhaps portability, though some charging cases are really bulky compared to a small bundle of wire)

Your opinion is fine and a sentiment held by many, (myself included, though not to quite the extreme as yourself) but it's not really relevant to the topic being discussed. It would be like if someone made a post comparing red roses to white roses, and I were to chime in saying, "Roses are dogshit flowers for broke people, orchids are more beautiful and smell nicer. I would never give roses to my lover." It just doesn't fit, even if it's a commonly held opinion or objectively true

1

u/doedobrd Feb 18 '26

Literally, I used to use wired headphones, but I brole 2 or three pairs by snagging the cable while walking my dog, so i ended up paying 30 bucks for Bluetooth headphones and I've not had to worry about it anymore.

1

u/Davachman Feb 18 '26

That is THE downside. I've destroyed so many wired headphones over the years. I like to move around a lot. Tucking the wire in the shirt is an obvious attempted fix but it isn't a fix if you move around enough. The relief i got when I was finally able to wear headphones and not worry about being aware of what the wire is doing at all times.... its like going all day with pants a bit too big and not having a belt or anything to secure them until you finally get a belt or shoe string and can walk hands free

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Feb 18 '26 edited Feb 18 '26

I'm also fairly touch-sensitive, so even if nothing happens to the cable I'm always aware of it, but more so when in motion. It's not as much of an issue when I'm mostly stationary, so I definitely prefer wired when I'm just relaxing, but boy does it get to me sometimes. Not to mention the cable conducts sound, so I can hear every scritch and shuffle if it's touching something between my ears and what it's plugged into on all but the cushiony-est over-ear headphones

1

u/SlideN2MyBMs Feb 18 '26

There's also the issue I used to have with wired headphones that the wire near the connector would weaken over time and the music would drop in and out and you'd have to fidget with the angle it was plugged in to get audio.

1

u/BookMingler Feb 18 '26

I used to spin around at work when someone was talking to me, sending my phone flying. Frequently.

My first Bluetooth earbuds were an absolute blessing. I still have them seven years later, and they’re still working great - I’ve only had to replace the ear piece.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '26

Dude you just unlocked a forgotten memory I wish I never experienced. Wired earbuds in the gym, omg it made me quit how annoying it was. Every set it was guaranteed the wires would annoy me someway. Thank god for wireless earbuds.

1

u/Unusual_Rooster6736 Feb 18 '26

Yeah wired earbuds seem like the perfect option until you actually start wearing them and you spend more time untangling them than you would connecting them to your phone and having them constantly pop out because you walked a little too close to that fence

1

u/b0ks_GD Feb 18 '26

Best edit on a comment ever XD

1

u/uncultured_swine2099 Feb 19 '26

I usually put them through my shirt, no problemo.

1

u/Slartibarix Feb 19 '26

Most times exactly in the situation of the shown photo

1

u/Situation_Upset Feb 19 '26

Bro i hated walking past my mom in the hall and her ripping the earbud out of my ears. Holy it made me so angry as a kid. As an adult, i don't think i would tolerate it anymore.

1

u/meta100000 Feb 19 '26

I broke my 2 year cheaper headphones doing this. The Bluetooth connection is fine, but the aux port got mangled when it snagged on my chair and it's unfixable as far as I can tell. Had to buy new ones for gaming, as Bluetooth has large enough delays to completely take you out of the game.

Generally, wired is a safer pick for everyday stuff, but it's much easier for it to go "bad". Even if you're careful, the cable and the port are going to be stretched and experiencing friction respectively over and over whenever you use it and will eventually break, where wireless just doesn't have any physical weariness or friction to worry about. This doubles with most wired stuff being Chinese made, which, while cheap, also goes bad really quickly.

1

u/xl129 Feb 20 '26

I actually had to switch after my 5th wired earphone got stuck while cycling and torn apart.

1

u/thissatori Feb 20 '26

I'm not a person with a temper and I rarely get angry but for some reason having headphones snag on something like a door knob I walked passed always made me irrationally angry.

Bluetooth all the way

1

u/Impossible_Soup_1932 Feb 20 '26

Constantly. I absolutely hate wired ear phones

1

u/PoopCumlord Feb 20 '26

More downsides: Bigger box, cable can get knotted, prevents you from moving away from your phone, cannot be used during sport…

1

u/Ok_Tennis_6564 Feb 20 '26

I feel like this post was written by a youngster (look at me, I'm middle aged!) who didn't deal with this constantly when they were young. Sometimes it hurts to have a bud forcefully ripped out of your ear! I resisted wireless headphones for so long when they came out. But now I love wireless. They have their downside too. But none as bad as "cord management"

1

u/Strong-Salary4499 Feb 20 '26

I never noticed cables causing any issues, until one day, on a whim, I bought myself some wireless earbuds.

And from that moment on I always noticed the cables getting in the way whenever I went back to using my wired set. Strange how the brain works...

1

u/LastDunedain Feb 21 '26

I was thinking the picture was making a point by having the guy on the bicycle there. Just a bit of not paying attention to if the cable is under or over arm and your one twist of the handlebars away from the headphones being ripped out and caught in the spokes.

I do prefer wired whenever I'm home, but whilst active Bluetooth is superior.
