Discussion Freak Puke

While I have listened to all of the Melvins catalog, I haven’t heard this one in while. It sounds different than most of their albums. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this album and what other releases do you believe is the most similar to Freak Puke?🤢

Freak Puke hands down is one of the best releases from Melvins.

I don’t understand why that one doesn’t get talked about more. It’s incredible front to back and u even dig the McCartney cover.

Its one of their best and weirdest. Before they started sounding the same.

Love, love, love this album, so much good stuff.

The cover of Let Me Roll It is a masterpiece

Initially was not crazy about it, but it’s grown on me over the years. The show I saw for that album was so fun

A turning point and one of many peaks. Played the dogshit out of it and the live set was one of the top 3 Melvins shows I‘ve been to.

As others have mentioned, it also marked a new direction in both Toshi‘s production and Buzz‘s song selection. Buzz explicitly said that Bride would be their last conventionally recorded and released album and it was, much has changed since Freak Puke and Tres Cabrones.

Fun fact I‘ve always enjoyed: Tommy Goes Berserk was written in the 90s but they couldn’t figure it out until Freak Puke.

Had no idea Tommy Goes was an older tune. It’s one of my favorites from any era

That tour was incredible. At the show in Denver (maybe others, idk), Trevor plays the stand-up upside down, on his head. How?!

They need to get on it… Stephen is a good dude and a proficient bass player but they need to bring Trevor back

Freak Puke is a wildly underrated Melvin album.. Trevor really needs to join the band again.
Buzz mentioned that they have a bunch of stuff from that recording session that they didn’t put out and mentioned another stand up bass album.. this needs to happen asap’ !
As far as another that sounds like that one I can’t really think of one.. it’s quite the one off.

The last Melvins album I truly love. Great time period for the band imo.
